I received a letter from HSBC, stating that as I was going into an IVA, my account (current account, savings account [£0.24 in it!] and credit cards) were to be frozen and I am to return cards and unused cheque books within 7 days of this letter (letter dated 04/01/08, arrived at my parents 12/01/08!!!)

Is this just standard proceedure to return cards and cheque books?

I don't have cards for MBNA and Halifax - I disposed of them about 12 months ago (cut them up!) - is this likely to be an issue?

I have forwarded the letter to my IP, but I know she is out of the office today and tomorrow, so thought I would ask you guys as well.

I had to do this. I just cut them up as requested and sent them back. I also had a few that I'd already cut up, so I wrote to the companies involved and explained and they were fine.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

I was with the HSBC and have already shredded the cheques and cut the cards up! I'm sure they'll do the same to my account at some point so hope that they'll accept a letter.

IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Thanks - I suspected it was normal proceedure, but just wanted to make sure. I'll post them all off tomorrow. [:)]

I'll keep them sweet and chuck them in a jiffy bag - I have thousands of the flaming things, so that's one more out of the way!

Mine were all chopped up either before or just after. I just wrote back to any that asked and confirmed i had disposed of them.

I was with HSBC when i got my IVA in December and took them till Jan to phone me up asking for a payment on my loan in which I explained to them that I now have an IVA and I havnt heard anything off them since... not even a letter saying they are closing my account which I find very strange.

I had the exact same letter and took mine into a branch and handed them over to them and they said they would sort it out for me.

Any credit cards I had I destroyed pre iva but did get letters asking for them back to which I just wrote to them and said they were destroyed, no one has since come back to me.
Be positive & look after yourself, there are more important things in life than debts....

Best Wishes
