Hi everyone.
I got 3 letters yesterday,
2 were from Mercers for Barclaycard, stating they had received confirmation i was entering an IVA and confirmed my account is closed. It then goes on to say, please forward a copy of the order once it has been confirmed. Do you think this means they wont be voting?
Funny enough i got another letter from Northern Rock yesterday offering me a loan!!!!!

I've just been offered a credit card by Lloyds TSB!

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

OOOOOOOOOOOOO Skippy !!!!!! You are lucky!! Isn't it amazing that they can waste so much money generating these flyers, knowing full well that they will only get a 2% (maybe) return for the thousands of pounds they spend. Its no wonder they need to get more p in the £ from debtors!!!!!!

I was actually standing in the bank and they had my account details in front of them (they have allowed me to keep my account albeit with a rubbish cash card!) and if I'd had more time I would have let him explain it to me in detail (apparently it's different to other cards!) and then told him I was BR! When he started to tell me about it I told him they wouldn't give me one, and he asked me what I've got against credit cards! How long have you got?!?!

I was in my bank (one of my creditors) - they allowed me to keep my debit card and cheque book as I had inadvertantly paid my debt to them, and the manager of the bank asked me if I wanted a credit card. I did not tell her I was in an IVA, but I did say to her no thanks, its Credit Cards that got me into trouble. Her reply, --- I am sure it was not that bad and I am sure that we as a bank will offer you the best deal possible!!!!

Perhaps she did not hear me!! NO THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought a pair of shoes a couple of days ago (in the sale of course!) and I paid with my prepaid card and to be honest I felt uneasy using it - I much prefer using cash! I use Dave's Ebay account but that doesn't seem like using credit as I give him the cash immediately. I'm on the road to recovery!

I transfer money from my cash card to the debit card - I hate doing it!! On Sturday I had to go out and get pet food, went to the cash point to draw out the money, only to find the cash point down. Person I was with said, pay by debit card and you can get cash back ---- not!!!! There was no money in the debit card!!!!!!!!!!!

Cats got tinned tuna and dog shared it with them!!!!!!!!!!

For those that have partners/spouses/parents etc that arent subject to insolvency proceedings and do have credit cards themselves, cant you just get a additional card through them and pay them back when you have to use it? As far as I know, 'additional' cards arent credit checked as it is still the full responsibility of the account holder. Just a thought if you need some extra flexability...

Great idea but I think the temptation may be too great. My policy now is if I don't have the cash, I can't have lash!!!!

I do admit that I am becoming somewhat of a scrooge since this all happened - I do not enjoy spending money even though there are so many things that I would like. I also find that I don't just lob things into the supermarket trolly anymore, get to the check out and whip the card out. I now go in with a certain amount of cash and thats it.

Well, that is certainly good practice Sue and I wouldnt want to encourage anyone to get in debt again through using a c card. But at least in the above scenario you have someone watching over you (ie the mr or mrs) and only they get to see the statements - so that would be enough to put the fear of god into me to make sure I dont do anything silly! Honestly, my life would not be worth living!!

You want to send someone over to keep an eye on me? Mind you, with Mum coming over for a visit, she bangs me on the head when I spend so hopefully the next 6 weeks are going to be cheap ones!!!

Sue, its great to hear of your budgeting techniques and also good to see that you have set up boundaries so you dont find yourself in this position again. Very positive!

Back to the original topic, mercers still chase me even though my iva was approved 17 days ago - so I guess Zoe you are lucky that they at least acknowledge yours! They are now saying they'll send a local Debt Collector round to my residence, but they say they really dont want to do that - all I got to do is pay my arrears. Despite the fact they're legally bound by the arrangement, so surely their approaches of this nature are illegal?

Hi Ivor
Your right they cant do this tell your ip to sort them out, if they are a creditor then they cant pursue you now the iva is in place. The usual reason is one half of a compandoesnt let the other know what is going on.
