Hi

I've recently become a member of IVA.CO.UK, and wished I had of know about this website when I became insolvent 4 years ago as there is some really useful information on here for people with debt problems!

I recently (May 2006) completed my IVA early thanks to equity in my property, however I find that I am still firefighting my credit rating. I still have a basic bank account and have been turned down god knows how many times for a debit card and it's so embarrasing when going shopping as I need to ensure I have cash on me at all times.

Appreciate that I have another 2 years before my IVA comes off my credit history, but surely there are other options, or is there?

I'd love to hear from someone that has had this same experience?

Thanks

Hi and welcome.
If you want a debit card[Maestro]and want guaranteed acceptance then go for the "Think Banking" account. It will cost you £12.50 per month.
Alternatively why not get a prepaid credit card ?

Thank you for your advice, I will definately look into it!

It will help with my upcoming wedding too in September as a lot of people prefer cheque or card!

Congratulations for your impending wedding!

Have you tried the Co-op? I have a basic Cashminder account with them and you get a Visa Electron debit card, online banking, direct debits etc.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

Thanks Skippy, it's costing me a fortune!

I'll look at the options, but it's really de-moralising being turned down so often.

I'm not saying i'm not glad to be debt free, but i can't see the woods through the trees at the moment!

Well I'm bankrupt and the Co-op gave me an account!

I have heard that the Cashplus mastercard is very good, and I have one from Unique. I am also waiting for one from Virgin, but I think that might have got lost - I must chase it up!
