Life after the IVA Agreement

I wanted to tell those people who are either debating whether to have a IVA / about to have a crditors meeting how my life has been since my IVA was agreed.Firstly I want to commend the people behind this website forum it is a fantastic site and was so helpful whilest I was going through a traumatic time with my creditors. I have debts of £70k and had 13 creditors my IVA was borderline as NR were my biggest creditor. it was handled very well by Debt Free Direct who have been excellent.

my iva was approved with creditors acepting 18p in the £ which is £295.00 per month. What has been fantastic is no more phone calls / letters and I feel more optomistic about the future. what I would say to people is keep using this site it is informative and has lots useful advice. I can live without credit and after the iva certainly wont undertake any credit. Thank you everyone who was there for me at that time. Howard

I would echo this post, please everyone who thinks they are in trouble don't bury your head in the sand and get some advice asap as your problems won't solve themselves.
My iva approval was a big turning point for me and I am so grateful to have this second chance.

So glad your iva is working well for you also, keeping in touch with the forum helps me a great deal and it has been such a support[:D]

i totally agree with you howard.i dont think id have got through the last 2 months,or even plucked up the courage to ring for help with my debts if it wasnt for this forum and the lovely, welcoming people who post on here.lots of luck with your iva journey,it definately is a nice feeling to know that your being helped and supported.take care.[:)]

thank you Emma / Tori I agree entirely with both of you I have only made 4 payments but those 60 are now 56 and comming down. I can still manage comfortably too. wish you both luck too on the jounrney

I'm just coming up to 4 payments (next Friday - not that I am counting!) and the time seems to have gone really fast!

thanx howard.glad your iva is going well.ive been thinking about my iva being for 260 weeks instead of 5 years.somehow it doesnt seem as long?!?im sure the time will pass very quickly.[:)]

Oh I don't know Tori - I think 260 weeks sounds waaaaay longer than 5 years!!!!!!![:D]

I think I will stick with counting down the months.

well i can honestly say that the last 2,nearly 3 months since i made my first step towards going for an iva have gone extremely fast.cant wait till im 4 months in ! mmm,maybe 260 weeks does seem longer when you see it written down.either way definately prefer 5 years as opposed to 40 years (i guess thats how long it would have taken me to pay my debts back if i wasnt getting help ! ) [:)] [:)]

I know that one of my debts would have taken 19 years to pay back under DMP! I could be dead by then! I'll be a crochety old b****r anyway!

good grief that is a lot of years.i wouldnt like to try counting that in weekly terms ! joking aside,if i have to go down the dmp route it will take me approx 14 years to pay mine back realistically. so, 5 years in my opinion is nothing compared to that [:)] [:)]

I only found this forum on Thursday, and I already feel more in control. My head is out of the sand, although half of me wishes I had left it there! I have sat down this morning and sorted out all my debts - not a pleasant experience - but everyone on here just seems so helpful and positive. About to complete a couple of IP contacts. Everything crossed they say IVA, not BR, then I can start the 60 month countdown.

well suzanne my head is nowhere near any sand now thank goodness.i never in a million yrs would have thought that i would be proposing an iva or posting on a forum.its the best thing ive ever done.cant believe how simple and straightforward it has been.before i found the courage to get help with my debts i used to wake up in the morning,open my eyes then immediately get a sick feeling in my stomach.i would then spend the rest of the day worrying about my debts.they totally controlled my life.

I could have written this myself - except for the sleep bit! Until about 18 months ago the only thing that could wake me was the kids. Not even a thunderstorm above our heads. But I can't remember the last time I had a good nights sleep.

I do feel better for 'finding' this place Jan. Just knowing that I'm not alone, and not the only one with such dreasdful debts really helps

but ever since i made that first phonecall i stopped worrying and didnt feel sick as soon as i opened my eyes in a morning.the immediate relief was priceless.i am back to my old self again and dont live in a secret little debt ridden bubble anymore.i havent even had my iva accepted yet and of course ive worried about it being rejected.but what will be will be.just having someone to share your worries and problems with is priceless.good luck with your iva journey and let us know how you get on.x [:)]
