Hubby and I were just lying on our sunbeds in the garden as the chance to do so is so rare, and he said to me it is so nice to lie here without a care in the world and no worry, he said he would have liying there worrying about money if it wasnt for the iva.

We would probably have been arguing about money if it weren't for the IVA.

Hubby will be lighting the barbie soon (have to make the most of it!), once all my nice, clean DRY washing has been brought in.

I've even done the ironing today so that I don't have anything to do tomorrow.

You watch it rain!!!!!!![8D]

worry can be a very soul destroying thing.this time last year,or even just a few mnths ago i would have been sat in the house not wanting to go anywhere as my mind was swamped with worries about my debts.even on a day like 2day i would spend the whole of it sat with a pen, paper and a calculator trying to work out how i could sort out my debts.ive wasted so many days of my life tormenting myself about the mess i got into, but not anymore.now i cant wait to get outside and enjoy the sunshine(when its out !) x

i am so glad when i hear good stories but a iva has been the worst thing we did it feels like we are being hounded more by the iva company for every single extra penny we earn. coming close to what we were paying for our debt. yes we do earn more but only because i have worked away, but the cost of everything has gone up any way ie gas electric fuel shopping.

Howard ... what an inpsiring post, sure to be a comfort and give confidence to others.

Suzanne ... I do hope you get things sorted soon, I've just read your post about the bailiffs, this must be so distressing for you. May I ask what line of business you are in? I only ask because it was our family retail business that contributed extensively to my debt situation. Is your business ok otherwise as it would be awful to get current debts sown up in an IVA only to find yourself incurring future debts.

Outofpocket ... do you not have an agreed set amount to pay for your IVA which is reviewed annually?

Hi Debbie :) The business is childrens clothes and shoes. And it is the whole reason why we are where we are! 4 years ago we re-mortgaged and bought the business. Only turned out it was taking 50% less than the previous owners accounts showed. Add that to 2 burgularies; 4 floods; a few bad clothing choices; oh and the credit crunch! And here I am [:(] Ironically the business is slowly growing. I think this season will be the first where we have nearly broke even. But obviously I have 31/2 years of debts to sort out.

But you're right, half of me thinks I should just cut my losses - which is a hell of a lot - but the other half can see progress.

I have been in my IVA for over 3 years now... I'm now on the countdown for the end.

They have there up's & downs but I am just really glad that i made that choice in 2005 to speak to someone about my debts.

Looking back now its flown by, I've just hit my first hiccup & had to take a 2 month payment break to repair my car after it spat its gearbox across the M60 but my IP was really helpful & sorted it straight away!

There is light at the end of the tunnel!

I'm out of my mind but please leave a message!

Hi Suzanne / Debbie thank you for your feedback and comments I think it is so comforting knowing there are so many others in the same situation. but I think the forum is such a good tonic and offers lots of hope to others.

Hi All

Congrats on been in the IVA and having a more restful life. I am curious as to how you got 18p in the pound accepted we had ours turned down and are now starting a DMP, which will be with us till probably we are no longer around. I have just as I amtyping had a phone call from Lloyds TSB regarding one of my accounts. They have received no info etc etc. No matter how much you tell these people they keep calling. I have to say that i must sound very bored with it as i keep repeating the seem message to them in a monotonous tone.

Let me know who negotiated a 18p in the £ deal we may go with them.

Thanks

John

Hi
After joining this brilliant forum last week I have been catching up on postings every since, so hence my question re John's posting, I am on my first tentative steps to trying to arrange an IVA, (to those of you have already suggested Melanie Giles, I have already made contact as at present I am using Debt Free Helpline to sort out a DMP.) Sorry I digress, but for those in the know as it were, for what reasons does an IVA get tuned down?

Thanks

N

Hi Naomi

Our IVA was turned down because the offer was not large enough for creditors to accept. It is awhile ago now but I think we offered 13% and 14% as ours was a joint application. We still feel gutted as we saw it as our way of moving forward with a less strtessful life. We are just muddling along day to day now and hoping we can change our circumstances to reapply.

I hope this helps answer some of your questions for more detail and expert will be along soon.

thanks

John
