lloydstsb were a major creditor for me too and said yes well in advance of the actual date.

I agree about their lending policy though, they were throwing money at me and when I went in for help with sorting out my debts.............they offered me more money and a remortgage. I was so mad that I crossed the road and went into the local Citizens advice bureau and got help from them, without borrowing anymore money(we already had a consolidation loan from lloydstsb).

It really does and did at the time disgust me. We had got a loan from them to clear our credit cards with them 18 months earlier and the let us keep the cards, and we just used them again for day to day living pretending it was all ok,so when they offered us anther loan I went ballistic!!!! The branch manager didnt know what hit her. I know we spent the money but had they taken the credit cards off us(as she said they should have done),when we took the 1st loan we would have had 25k less debt!!!

Now my son is 18 they have bombarded him with stuff on loans just like HSBC - he took great delight in telling them he has full facilities with an ethical bank - the Co-Op!!!!

No consistency at all - my debt was just over £2k and they voted no!

I must hang my head at this, but many years agi, I used to be an accounts manager for LloydsTSB

Yes, we had to push lending, cards and anything else we could onto people, as we all had targets to achieve each month and our pay was a low basic salary plus bonus for achieving targets

We did have to do a "responsible" lending course and be signed off on that before we were allowed to agree loans for people (I guess this was the bank's responsible lending policy), but then you had the daily, weekly, monthly meetings with the management getting grilled on why you were short on the targets

Needless to say, as I have a concious, I did not last long in that job, as I could seriouly not agree to something to put a customer in more trouble. In fact I declined a number of loans for people on that very basis, even though the credit scoring had pre agreed them

It is all targets, bonus, slapping for not hitting targets etc. What ever happened to good old fashioned cstomer service being the all important thing and not flogging loans???
There are 10 kinds of people that understand binary, those that do and those that don't

Hi
A great post and probably an accurate reflection, in general, of how creditors work, or used to.
We all take responsibility for our debts on this forum but equally all creditors must take a share of that responsibility for irresponsible lending

A very good post.

When I first started on the credit ladder, many years ago, you had to jump through a great many hoops before any money changed hands, a lot more than now.

You couldn't borrow for things like holidays or weddings or anything like that.

Perhaps we should go back to those days.

Lloyds weren't one of my creditors, although I did bank with them and I never had a problem with them - they never tried to push anything on me during the few years I was with them, and when I went BR they were happy for me to keep a full account with them.

No consistency!
