Hi,
It sounds as if the welcome we get depends on individuals rather than any specific policy.

Tho there definitely seems to be a shift in attitude towards us. My guess is that this is because we are of no commercial value...can't borrow, can't save much. So they are providing us with a loss leader service and not being able to sell any income generating products. [:(]

My advice to anyone reading this and thinking about an IVA would be to open a new account first and then proceed with the proposal. [;)]

Can I say moneysupermarket.com on here have a page showing all the bank 'family trees'? Sorry admins if I'm not. I won't be offended if you edit!

My experience with Yorkshire Bank was above my expectations. After deciding to go forth with the IVA process I went into a branch and asked if I could open a ReadyCash account. The young lady invited me into a separate room and asked who I was banking with and why I was wanting to move. At this point I told her everything about my debt, the first person face to face I had ever being completely honest with. She was amazingly objective and made no judgments about my situation, she asked about my family aka one daughter and what we did together. I even told her that she was the first person I had ever opened up to about my situation to which I got the reply " It's all part of the service! ". Wow! Anyway She explained that as long no arrangement was already in place I had every chance of being accepted, and I was and got an upgrade to the full current account but with a note added to the account not be offered an O/D for 5 years.
This was only 3 months ago so sad to hear this is not always the case. She did leave the room a few times to speak to other people and may be she swayed it, I don't know.
Anyway good luck to anyone changing banks, I found it a big psychological hurdle.
Take Care everyone.

That's really good news, glad you got it sorted at last.

we've opened a natwest account for us all, but as we have not yet officially entered into an iva I am hoping it will all work out ok.

How would they know we in an iva though. They are not a creditor and have no connections to any of the others. Is it something they find out anyway.

You should be fine with NatWest. Lesley has an account with them and has no problems.

It's only HSBC and First Direct who actively trawl the Insolvency Register as far as I am aware.

I really feel for people setting up new accounts right now. I'm sure it's getting tougher...yet we are no risk whatsoever and in a few years time will have more disposable than most of our peers because we aren't carrying any debt at all. I'm sure banks will latch on to the post-IVA market soon and this will involve courting us while in our IVAs. I for one will be loyal to those who helped me and certain banks will never get my business. It's prejudice pure and simple...and shows a blinding ignorance.

I shall stick with Barclays and Nationwide (as long as they don't mess me about!).

I'm with you all on that, those companies that have looked after me whilst I've been in my IVA will continue to get my business once I have finished it.
We're willing to wipe the slate clean, give you a fresh start. All that we're asking in return is your cooperation.

My main current account is with Lloyds TSB and I've had debts with HBOS included within my IVA. I've been ok to date so even though they are under the same company they appear to be trading seperatly.

I've got a reserve account just in case but have never used it, it has got about £10 in it and has just been left there in case of problems whilst in the iva - like the bank closing my account because of the IVA.
