Mrs Skint, he's a Shire, not 100% sure if he's pure or crossed, he didnt come with papers. my farrier reckons he's slightly crossed with a smaller heavy breed or he's just not got a pure bloodline further back. he's 18hh approx which is about 7feet at the shoulder. he suffers with his skin so his legs are never as fluffy as they should be and sometimes need to be clipped up completely so he can look like a real heinz 57 at times!

Hes such a sweet looking boy. At the stables where my boys pony is kept there is a shire. Hes a gentle giant with the sweetest nature ever.
Yours looks very much like a clydesdale so perhaps thats what hes crossed with. His head is more clydesdale than shire.

Hes a beautiful boy and i can completely understand why you were so upset at the thought of losing him.

I hope he brings you as much more pleasure as you must bring to him xxxx

To be honest, it never concerned me what his breeding was, from the first second i clapped eyes on him i fell in love. he was 15hh and 11 months old, all legs and knees!he cowered at the back of the stall and when i did get close to him i realised he was scrawny and painfully thin, his toes were curled up and his coat was riddled with lice and very patchy. i paid £600 to take him there and then, which was far more than he was worth. i spent 2 years getting his health up to mark, i even slept in the stable with him when he was so ill he couldnt stand. the bond we built in the early stages of his life is unbreakable by man or beast. when my 32 year old mare died 2 years back, it was him that kept me sane and vice versa. i went to his stable only minutes after she had gone and he put his head down and a i wrapped my arms round his face. we stood like that for a while. thankfully we had each other to greive. even my bf couldnt get a cuddle from me!

He's very lucky that you found him Pink Dog. I really can't undertsna how people can be cruel to animals. It's amazing how animals know when we need comforting or we're ill - Harry bites me and scratches me most of the time, but if I'm not well or I'm upset he just sits with me and lets me cuddle him.

i think in Major's case, it wasnt so much cruelty, but ignorance and incapability. the chap that had him was wheelchair bound and relied on his daughter to help him. i dont think he realised that a foal like Major needed a substantial Stud Mix feed and should have had a farrier look at him as soon as his 'slippers' had come away. he was feeding a scoop of sugar beet and a scoop of barley. that was it. it all mounted up health wise as Major became grossly anaemic and almost slipped into a coma during castration (the vet obviously not realising.

He really is lucky to have you.
I must admit, im no expert but from asking around the stables i have learned a lot about looking after horses and its very true that if you look after them they look after you.

My 5 year old autistic son has never been as happy as he is since having his pony and the pony loves him and really looks after him while hes riding.
