Thanks for finding out for me Lily. It wasn't that much, and half was Dave's as we do it as a joint thing. I'll leave it as it wasn't much - probably no more than £60 in the last couple of years.

I'm planning on April / May at the moment as I need to get the money together, and there is also some pension information that I am having a problem getting hold of. If I get it sooner I'll be at the court sooner! I'm sending my income and expenditure form to Accuma today, so once they contact me I can go ahead. If I haven't heard from them by the end of the week I'll ring them, and tell them what I'm doing.

I think I'm stressing so much as I'm telling my mum tonight - I could be buried in her back garden by 6pm (joke!)! I think she'll be ok - my mum is very approachable - it's just the feeling that I have let her down.

Skippy, you are bring honest with her and she deserves that. When I told mine I was really scared so I wrote it down before hand. I added at the end that I was so sorry and I gave her some space to think about what I had said.

You never know what is around the corner, I knew mom cared about me and she wanted to help, it was always the other way round, she would come to me with her problems, like what colour to have the rooms etc, this was important to her, she didnt have anyone to share decisions with. Your mom will care also, debt feels shameful because we know we created the problem but hey ho, youre facing it, thats whats important now.

When I told her about the IVA she thought I was going to tell her I was pregnant - I think that would have been more of a shock to her! Dave suggested that I start the conversation with "Guess what Mum, I'm going to be in the paper!" Don't worry, I won't say that, but it did make me laugh!

It's really weird, one minute I can laugh (not because I think it's funny, but because there's nothing else to do), and the next minute I'm panicking as I think of something, like the gambling.

I do feel better now that I have made the decision, and I am looking forward to March as we are going away to Dave's mum's place by the sea for a few days for my birthday so I can relax then - it has no phone and no computer, and mobiles can be switched off!

Thanks again for all your help and support Lily, and if there's ever anything I can help you with, just ask xxx

Hi Skippy

Good luck tonight telling your mum. I'm sure it will be fine. She already knows about the IVA so you are only telling her that you cannot survive nearly 5 years as you originally thought you could.

Does she have internet access? If so show her this forum. That's what I'm going to do when I tell my parents. I am hoping that they will understand that debt is a much bigger problem these days and IVAs and BR are ways to get out of the debt cycle.

Enjoy your break

Dave
Regards

Dave

No problem skippy

Yes there is something, stay focussed, make the most of what you have now, onwards and upwards, right?
Let that mommy know how much she means to you.
good luck

It wasn't so bad after all! After feeling sick all afternoon I went and told my mum, who took the news remarkably well. I'm not buried in the back garden after all!

She offered to release more money from the house, but I said no. I got myself into this mess so I'll get myself out of it.

The one thing I did ask her was if she would help me keep my car by 'giving' me some money if the OR wants to seize it. I will pay her back after the bankruptcy, but it would be a weight off my mind knowing I would be able to keep it. Needless to say she said yes, bless her. I can't afford much, but I think a bunch of flowers could be in order!

Now I've told my mum it all seems more real, and I feel more in control. Mind you, it was a bit difficult to have a serious conversation with my mum when the dog howled every now and then as she was being ignored!

Good luck tomorrow Kerri, I'm sure you'll be fine.

No Lily, there won't be the boing boing of baby Skippys! I didn't bother turning up the day they handed out maternal instincts - I'm ok with other people's children, providing I can hand them back when the trouble starts!!! I have tried to convince Dave that we should hear the patter of tiny feet - I want a kitten! I've been told no, not until we can move, when hopefully I can have my Rotty as well. Oh well, I can dream!

In answer to your question Bear, no my mum doesn't have internet access. She does have a computer, but Dave hasn't got around to setting it up yet. She thinks forums and chat rooms are dodgy, so she probably wouldn't even look in case there was any 'funny business' going on!

He can just about cope with me mentioning marriage, but if I mentioned babies I think it could tip him over the edge! He's already got 2 sons who are a couple of years younger than me from his first marriage - he's 20 years older than me. Unfortunately not my sugar daddy!

I saw that - she'd probably think I spend my time looking at dodgy websites!
