hello NPTPI....i wonder if you are scottish...its a particulalry scots phrase...my day used it all the time..

welcome....keep reading and keep posting...when i first posted here i was exactly the same as i honestly thought i was the only person to make such a mess of my life....beacause debt is such a secret and carries a stigma it isolates people and when you come on here you gain a community of like minded people who know how you are feeling and can give not only excellent advice but also lots of encouragement

let us know how you get on ...

Hello ther nopot and welcome from me.
Lets have no misery and no self pity. Pride is a better descripption in realising you need to sort it out and for doing something about it. We have all had the same feelings and if you go back through some peoples posts you will see how relieved and see their stress lift as I am sure yours will.
It is hard at the beginning, with calls and letters but you will get through. In my opinion you can do no better than Melanie and he great team.

All the best keep posting even if for a moan. One of the best things about this forum is the great support you will always get.
Ang

Hi nopot ... I have to agree with Ang ... you should be feeling proud of yourself for having the courage to address your debt difficulties ... and I predict that it wont be long before you feel the need to change your username to something more positive, which will be a reflection of your personal growth [:)]

nopot, just another mutual support message. I'm a similar age to you, have an identical family make up, and not dissimilar debts.
If my first experiences with Melanie's team are anything to go by, you have done the right thing. I'm just setting off down hopefully the IVA road, and after my first telephone meeting with Tina, I felt better already.
Institutions like payplan/CCCs etc, are great, and thank heaven they exist, but like you I felt I was getting "advice by numbers". There's no way you will get bespoke, individual advice like you will from a dedicated IP.
Be proud fella, no journey was completed without a first step...and you've taken it.[;)]

amazing amazing amazing. i can't begin to tell you how much these messages are helping at the moment.

we started our business 10 years ago and up to two years ago i thought i was good at it. we had debt, but it was calculated and manageable. i always thought if i saw a downturn in trade it would be gradual and i could take measures to correct it. when things took a downturn it was like somebody turned off a tap, and it was completely out of my control.
before we started our business we both had reasonably secure careers, but were bored to tears, thought our managers were a**holes and wanted to be self sufficient. what i would give now to work for an arse who i could just doff my cap to, smile, and take the money.
bitter, resentful.....yup.
the other thing that i'm raging at is that most of our debt was created to plough money into the business to create growth, then i could repay it quickly. this was going to plan the debt was coming down in big chunks then the local council decided to "regenerate" the town (translated - lets close all the car parks that service nopots business because everyone will walk miles just to visit him)
i might as well have got into this situation by funding a champagne lifestyle on the plastic; whereas in our personal life we have actually been quite frugal.

after that rant i've taken my head off the railway line and i'm gonna saw it off ! myself.

Ok now that we got your head off the line I think its safe for me to retire to bed for the night.
I hadnt slept as well as I am now for years, and its all because I took a hold of my debts and did something about them, its so liberating I wanted to burn my bra(well it would be the wifes bra but you know what I mean).

Goodnight all.
