I was told not to make any payments at all as I would be seen to be favouring one creditor over another.

I'm afraid after the initial call from the creditors I did not speak to any of them before my IVA and they rang at home and on my mobile. I changed both numbers because I did not want to deal with bullies.

I did write to them though, frequently.

Its a hassle that you really do not need, because going through the IVA process is stressful enough without the added pressure of people bugging you for money you dont have. We ignored the calls from egg for ages, then my IP said dont worry about it and pick the phone up and speak to them, they cant do anything to you from an office in the city!!! Sure enough IP was right and the guy from egg was really quite nice and said he would put a note on my record that I was applying for a trust deed and they would discontinue the calls. As soon as I put the phone down they called back coz they are chasing the other half for money too!!!
Discharged today the 8th feb 2012. View is much brighter now.
Continuing to rebuild our credit worthiness.

While our IVA was being sorted we had lots of letters and calls threatening that people would come round to the door sent all letters to IP and no body came thank goodness. I was concerned that if they came when I was at work my husband who has Alzheimer's would let them in and not be able to explain that we were going for an IVA.

I have chose to speak to all my creditors. Like Maxdebt said I don't get into arguements I tell them who my IP is and how to contct them and I tell them where my case' is up to and that I currently do not have any spare cash whatsoever. If they ask again (which they do) then i tell them that I am in a situation that that I'm not proud of but am trying to address and that they are making a horrible situation worse I tell them I will ring and up date them as soon as I hear anything from my IP (which I don't do as they ring every 10 days). I have to say through this whole process I have had most of the creditors calls. My oh has received 5 in total since beginning of April. I have received 5/6 every 10 days. I now know the sequence in which they will ring. How Sad eh! [:I]

I'm a bit of a coward I'm afraid! They used to ring my mobile at work so I set the ring tone to the same as my message tone! I couldn't even answer and then walk out of the office because as soon as you walk away from the window you lose the signal!

Don't get me wrong I used to be terrified of answering my calls at home until one of my creditors began calling me at work. Since I work nights (busy 'working' right now [:D]) I never knew until I turned in for my first night to find a wee note from my boss wanting to see me in the morning! She wanted to know what the hell was going on, why were Goldfish calling me at work!? I absolutely had to do something about it and after advice from this marvelous forum, I spent 2 days calling every one of my creditors. Within a week or so my calls at home dwindled away ( from about 5 or 6 a day to 1 or 2 every few days)The worm turned so to speak! [:I]
My thanks to Melanie and her team :)

i had problems with them too, they always said "as you have no repsonded to our letters". even though i always responded and kep them up to date on what was happening in writing.
i even got a letter today from someone they sold the debt to saying my bahaviour was unacceptable and they won't accept my reduced payments. i wouldn't mind but my iva was accepted a couple of weeks ago. i'm just gonna phone them and tell them to update there records.
they all try the same tactics to scare you into paying.

I'll bet that whoever you speak to probably won't have a clue and they will still try to get money out of you. Mercers did that to me on the day my IVA was accepted.

It does take time for the information to filter out to your creditors. I'd be inclined to either send it off to your IP or bin it.

we live and learn - i always have to learn the hard way me, but hopefully it will be a hard enough lesson that i will never make the same mistakes again!

Blimey MBNA have certainly changed tactics!!!
One of my largest creditors were them and yet when I told then I was proposing an IVA they were extremely polite and asked if I could keep then informed which I did.
Mind you this was 4 and a half years ago and the financial climate has taken a nose dive for the lenders so perhaps hardball is the way they are tackling things these days.
Oh well only 17 payments to go.
