Hi All
reading this posting has me worried. I had an account with First Direct closed because they no longer accepted customers with IVA's even though i told them we had were going for an IVA when I opened the account and the only bank that accepted us was HSBC they saw all our paper work for the IVA and accepted us we only have a basic account with them of course. Have accounts with HSBC been closed because of problems or just for the sake of it.

Just seen these postings and starting to panic. I have a sole trader and limited company account with HSBC and my IVA was accepted on Friday last week. Will they be able to close these accounts?

If they do, they will give you notice of this fact, but it is more the First Direct accounts which are closed rather than mainstream HSBC accounts.

When we were looking for a new account we had to clear our First Direct Account and the cashier at HSBC was concerned that I was drawing out large amounts money I explained my problem that we had been refused at several High Street Banks and she asked if I had tried HSBC I said no as they were connected to First Direct. She said that the only dealings they had with First Direct was people paying in money etc. As I had nothing to loose I asked at the Bank and after a slight problem with my Husbands ID we were accepted.
I felt that the person who dealt with us was very helpful and listened to what I was saying I did take all paperwork for the IVA and was very upfront with them. That was in January and things have been fine the problem I have is not having a debit card as having to carry cash and not having a cheque book but i just have to think ahead a bit more which isn't a bad thing. I hope my experience has reassured some other people not that i am recommending HSBC this is just my experience.

Take care everyone
