My parents have very kindly offered to pay for 3 nights in a hotel for when the OH and I get married next May (they know we are in an IVA and threw their hands up in horror when we said we were planning on camping for they honeymoon...bless them!)
We have found a gorgeous little luxury B&B, but they don't take card so we will need to settle the balance in cash. My mum said she would pay that amount into our bank account so we could withdraw it when needed and pay them.
But - what would the IP think to seeing a credit of this amount on our bank statement? Are we allowed to have cash a gift for something like this?
Also, my grandparents (who don't know of the IVA) have said they are going to give us £500 as a wedding gift...can we keep this or will it have to be declared?
Completion Certificate received September 2012.

What lovely gestures from your family AR. I certainly wouldn't see either of these as something you have to declare, they're gifts not windfalls.

I agree with Julie, I wouldn't declare a gift from my family. After all, if it has to be paid into the IVA I doubt they'd give it to you as cash!

It shouldn't be a problem at all, but to avoid any confusion, better to speak to your IP and explain the gifts so that they can explain to you how best to deal with it.

Good luck on the up-and-coming event.

If your parents know about the IVA then ask them to give you the money in cash in the first instance then it will not appear on your bank statement. Likewise, your grandparents, I am sure could be persuaded to give cash - knowing my grandparents, they are probably the same and have a stash of cash at home for these incidences and like to give cash rather than a cheque !

Hi AR, they could load it onto a pre-paid card for you maybe, 02 if you're with that network is offering a free one with free transactions etc., or there are others that are VISA so widely accepted. Wedding plans all coming together now...how exciting x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

If your parents know about the IVA, why dont you get one of them to open up a current account for you in their name but give you the debit card. My mum opened up an account for us to put away any spare cash we get for emergencies, the account isnt in either of our names and therefore nobody but us knows its there :-)

I think that camping is a very romantic way of spending your honeymoon!!! But then I love camping!

Rest assured the monies are not windfalls and your IP will not be interested in them - and is sure to support how you are spening the money.

There's nothing romantic about sleeping under a piece of canvass surrounded by creepy crawlies!

I have had too many nasty experiences with camping in the past to even consider it now.

If my hubby even suggested doing something like that we would be heading for the divorce courts, and if he suggested it for a honeymoon, the wedding would be off!

My honeymooon was spent in a bivvy, it's got to be who you're with especially on honeymoon rather than where you are..not saying I'd spend a night under a bivvy with him now 16 years down the line though lol x

I think snuggling up together watching the stars is about as romantic as it gets, but I will very much enjoy our hotel break in Harrogate.
Thank you for the suggestions and the reassurance that the money is not to be seen as a windfall.

I'll have to take your word for it AR! I'd rather have my teeth pulled out with no anaesthetic than spend one night surrounded by insects!

I hope you have a lovely time at the hotel.

We didn't have a honeymoon at all, however, much as I love my husband, neither of us do the hearts and flowers bit and never have done.

Snuggling up under the stars just wouldn't do it for me, regardless of who I was with! Even Keanu Reeves wouldn't manage it! I have to have my creature comforts.
