Life on Mars came close.

DCI Gene Hunt to Sam "its 1973 and lunchtime. I'm having hoops" and "don't move!! You're surrounded by armed bast**ds". Lol.

But then again it was set in the 70's.

The defence rests m'lud

One great thing about the 1970s -

If you wanted a Credit Card you applied for a "Barclaycard" or an "Access". End of story. Maybe we should turn back the clock.

In 1976, when i was 18, in full time employment, but still living with mom and dad, and wanted to buy a motorbike, I had saved enough for all the bits and pieces, but was about £300 short.
My dad had to come with me to the local branch of our TSB bank, to sign as guarantor that he would pay back my £300 if i defaulted on the loan.
How times have changed.

Yes - I agree.

And in the 70s the minimum monthly payment on your C/C balance was a sensible 5% - none of this 2% nonsense.

And when you bought something the card had to be put through those funny hand-held swiping things and a voucher written out by hand!!!

You are right - times HAVE changed!!! Dont know whether for the better though!!!

Would you believe , when i first joined the police, we were not allowed to have credit, as it was classed as a disciplinary offence, you were bringing the force into disrepute.
If you wanted 'HP' you had to submit an application form to the Chief Constable to ask for permission.

:-)...hi.How would they have known though? And, I'm having Wish You Were Here at mine and I'll have an MP3 with me so I can continue to hear the rest.Loudly! My son has fortunately followed in my footsteps(14) and plays very decent music. Poor boy is devestated that he's not in London on Monday night. Will a DVD come out.?
Last saturday whilst hunting for xmas decs, my 10 year old found a large vinal collection and sterio. She thought we had a photocopier hidden away in the attic and was very doubtful about the ability of the vinals to actually play music. Her music comes from an MP3 though so size proportion simply did not make sense. I'm only just 43 as well and she thinks I used to live in the olden days in black and white. Cat

Although I don't remember the 70's very well (I was born in 1975) I do like a lot of 70's music, although I must admit I'm more into 80's music.

At the moment I'm listening to the Saw Doctors - if anyone has heard of them I'll be amazed and VERY impressed!

I love Meatloaf and I went to see him earlier this year and I was very disappointed - the sound was awful and I could hardly hear the mighty Mr Loaf.

Other than the Saw Doctors my favourite band is the Pogues - Shane McGowan writes the most amazing lyrics and 'Fairytale of New York' is the best Christmas song ever, and one of the best songs for any time of the year ever written!

On the subject of funeral music I was thinking along the lines of 'Call the Fire Brigade'...

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

Hi Skippy

Another easy win today. Sorry to Melanie that Derby look dead and buried before the Xmas fixtures.

I worked with an Irish lad in 1990 and not only did he listen to the Saw Doctors but he knew them all as well.

And the Pogues "Fairytale of New York" is my ringtone at the moment. I've said at least 6 times in the last week this is the best Xmas song ever.

Good choice Dave, and I'm very impressed that you've heard of the Saw Doctors!

Another good win, lets hope Arsenal lose pretty soon! Another good win for Staines Town as well!

Come on Reading, you can beat Liverpool!
