I am new to this site and have just Started the process of applying for an IVA – I have sent my paperwork (statements, expenses, income etc) off a couple of days ago to be looked at by an IP.

Is it worth shopping around a bit or should I wait to see with what they come up with first?

I am using Moneyexpert – has anyone else gone through them?

Hi,
IVA.COM is a great site with reviews on IP's so you can have a good look around that. There are a couple of people who are experts on this site who come highly recommended. I am with Melanie Giles who comes with a great reputation.
"Life is too short to wake up in the morning with regrets. So love the people who treat you right, forget about the ones who don’t and believe that everything happens for a reason. If you get a chance, take it. If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said that it’d be easy, they just promised it would be worth it."

Hi
I did the same with Money Expert (Expert Financial solutions).
I now have my proposal and after going through it with a fine tooth combe I have found too many errors for my liking, I am seeking a second opinion sharpish!. Read the forum and pick up on recommedations and choose wisely. Links to other IPs are great reference.
Im not sure if the Money Expert proposal will be right for me as the errors and changes were discussed over the phone and it appears that they have been ignored.

Happy Searching.

Hi Mel

Errors were in relation to equity release from a jointly owned property which is for sale, I have managed to clear a credit card in its entirity after borrowing from folks, pressure from Skycard was immense and endless so just got rid as soon as possible, MEx were told but it still shows on my creditors list in the proposal, few other simple things with regards to future residential intentions and lumps sums offered which are completely unrealistic as I have to do 50/50 with the co owner.

I have emailed you a few details and hope to speak to you soon with regards proposals etc, hope you dont mind?

Spoke to Money Expert again this morning about the inaccuracies on the proposal, they have said they will adjust all the info and send me new papers when they are done. We will see what they say next time?[V]

I had my documents through on Friday and am not sure I can sign them!
They want me to send a cheque for my first payment (£299), which will be paid into my IVA account. If the IVA does not go through or I change my mind the contraxct says that they keep the money.

I was told I would have to pay nothing until the IVA goes through!
I am not plannng on backing out - we NEED this! but I am terrified that fi it does not go through we really cannot afford to lose £300

It has taken 3 weeks to get this far and am worried I will go into this through desperation. I know I should get a second opinion but am worried about how long it will take to get to the paper signing and starting of the IVA process.

annie out of experience i would get a second opionion, don't pay any money up front, i lost over 1.5k doing this as my IP dragged his heels and it didn't get accepted due to unrealistic I+e , do shop around as an iva is a big commitment for 5 yrs and you need to be comfortable in the knowledge that you will be able to sustain it for the following 5 yrs.
good luck
try the IP's on here you can't get no better!

I have taken your advice and gone to Melanie Giles website.
I have sent her my details and will see what happens...

This is causing me so much grief right now - I just want to know where I stand and want to see an end to all this.

We had our first 'red letter' last week and it is so scary - but we just do not have any money to pay!

Just had a call from MoneyExpert and they have agreed to waiver the initial charge and only take the first payment after the IVA is approved.

I will speak to Melanie's Team and see what the timescale is (as it seems a shame to change if it ill set us back too long timewise) and then make my decision who to go with.

I am in a terrible mess - because my heart keeps racing whenever I think about the situation and I feel constantly close to tears - it is so hard concentrating at work and I fee so drained so I just want this part of the process over with as soon as possible.

hi annie

make sure you are completely happy with the people you are going with - 5 years is a long time to be with an ip you are not sure about!

thinking of you, try not to worry, soon all this will be sorted out!

sending you a big hug!
