Hi,
I recently took out a new mortgage protection policy which would pay my mortgage off if anything was to happen to my wife or I. It also covers me if I am off sick from work for more then 6 months. The problem is that a few months ago I had a very bad attack of gout which I was of work for about 4 months. As a result this new policy will not cover me for any forms of gout and as I get attacks from time to time I am concerned that if I had another major attack of gout at some point in the future I would not be able to pay my mortgage. Does anyone know any insurance firms which allow for this sort of cover ?

I posted here a couple of days ago about MPPI (mortgage payment protection insurance) and the problems that can arise by not taking proper advice when taking out this type of cover. A company recently were awarded for providing excellent customer services and products in this area and can be found at www.britishinsurance.com

Also John Tegg (coveritall)who posts here has an in depth knowledge of this type of product and would be worth contacting.

Good luck,Tony

Hi whichwaynow

I think it is highly unlikely that you will be able to obtain this cover now. As soon as you declare it to an insurer, they will exclude cover against it on the basis that it is a pre-existing condition. If you did not declare it and made a claim later, claim enquiries would almost certainly bring this to light and your policy could then be cancelled with no refund for non-disclosure, and at worst the suggestion of fraud.

I would suggest that you always seek advice before cancelling any policy.
