Just about at breaking point!! Car has failed MOT miserably on emissions and it looks as though the engine may be on it's last legs. Had it 2 years and had to take a payment break to buy it after my wife crashed our previous car and wrote it off. 4 1/2 years into a 6 year IVA and it's proving to be a real struggle right now. Eldest daughter is at Uni, and, although she doesn't ask us for much, we try to help her as much as we can and youngest is 15 and at an age where she is wanting to go out with friends a lot more. Again, we try not to deny her anything and she is aware that money is tight and she doesn't ask for that much considering. Don't really know where I am going with this. Hate to wallow in any kind of self pity but just feel really down at the moment and struggling to see light any the end of the tunnel right now.
Carl.

Hi, I would definitely talk to your IP. Can the car be fixed to pass the MOT and hopefully see you through to the end of your IVA?

Life in an IVA is very tough at times I do agree and I sincerely hope things get easier for you very soon. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Hi carl. I know exactly how you feel, our daughter is at uni and we give her very little however it is hard to see them go without. We also have a 17 year old in sixth form and a 13 year old now in comp which costs a lot more even in busfares and diner money. We have an old car which we dread needing any work done on. Sorry I can't help but understand how you feel! Things will get better and there is light at the end of the tunnel x

Hi Carl I know how you feel life in an IVA has been really hard and has got harder as it has gone on. I am the point where I can no longer pay the IVA so hope to get a closure on a payments made to date basis. I would say speak to your IP if you need the car for work you need to get it fixed so you can pay your IVA.

Carl - are you one of my clients, as I seem to recognise your forum name for some reason? If so, please get in touch with me so we can chat things through and see what we can do to assist. No-one should need to suffer in silence.

Thanks Melanie. Just feel like I've hit the wall, if there is such a thing in an IVA. Should get a better idea today of what it's likely to cost to get through the MOT.

Looking like a replacement engine, which will be cheaper than replacing the whole car but still likely to be around £300 fitted (by a mate, thankfully!) Plus the few other bits it needs, could be looking at around £400. Current MOT actually runs out on May 2nd so need to get it done within a week!! Great news!!

Hi Carl - its always good to have a mechanic as a friend! Glad you have got something sorted. Do still have a chat with Mel if you need to.

This goes for everyone, you should never have to struggle and worry if something has cropped up or circumstances change. Your IP should always be available to you to assist you in difficulties and there are provisions in the IVa for making necessary changes if need be.

Thanks Tina. Not exactly sorted yet. Been looking for a replacement engine and they actually range from around £400 to £600!! And that's without fitting etc.
Melanie, when is the best time to call? I appreciate you must be very busy.

Hi Melanie. Did call your office today around midday but you weren't in. Left my number with the girl who answered the phone (sorry, didn't catch her name)who said she would pass it on to you.

Hi Carl, I am very near completion and I am with Melanies Team as well.
During my IVA I have had ups and downs as well through the journey and things like this such as an MOT failure are expected as it is never a clear path.
Speak to the team as I think they will do all they can to Help and maybe see you have a payment break.
They have certainly helped me along the way as I have suffered Job loss,Broken Fridge,Car Repairs etc and Melanies Team have certainly helped me through those tough times during the IVA.
The IVA is about getting to a completion and is supervised by IP and things like this happen to all of us during the IVA.
As long as you make 60 payments and have a really good reason to miss a couple of months then give them a call as the IVA is not a Bank Loan.
