Hi,

I'm currently renting and planning to move address soon to share with 3 other people. Will having an IVA cause any problems for anyone at the house I share with? Could I get turned down when the letting agents checks my file?

Thanks

Unlikely that your move will affect your new flatmates, but you might fail a landlord's credit check. You could consider getting your three friends to take the lease out in just their names, and then you rent a room from them, but make sure that this is legal before doing so - some tenancies do not allow subletting.

Hi Aaron,

Entering into an IVA should not affect your new housemates, as all the debt is in your name.

An IVA can affect you when looking to move properties, if the estate agent performs a credit check then your IVA will show up. I like Melanie's suggestion of getting your friends to be on the lease is a great way forward.
