I am currently in an IVA. My Disability Living Allowance has been included as income even though this benfit has been provided to cover care costs and mobility problems. Should DLA be counted as income for these purposes given that the Inland Revenue does not treat it as revenue?
Many thanks

Hi pa and welcome to the forum. From reading other people's posts here on the forum DLA is nearly always included in your income for an IVA. I'm not an expert, just in debt myself, and I'm sure one of the experts will be along to explain the reasons soon.

Onwards and upwards!!!

Hi Pa
I read in earlier posts that if you have increased living costs these should be included in your expenditure so though the allowance is classed as income the extra living and care costs should be counted as extra expenditure so one should cancel the other. Hope that helps.

Welcome to the forum p_a,

It is true, in an IVA all your monthly income received (whether that is DLA or rental income from a lodger etc) and monthly expenditure needs to be shown.

Also Aguise is correct, all your living costs should be included in the IVA especially costs that are incurred due to your disability. These then get cancelled off as both the income and expenses of your disability are accounted for.

Hope this information is of use

I have children that recieve dla and was told it is imcluded but was offset by added expenditure that my kids cost so remember to include everything even the smallest things can make a huge difference.

As the other experts have pointed out. DLA can be counted as income but all relevant expenditure you require relating to the said disability should be listed in your expenditure.
