Hi all,

Out of curiosity, I looked at my old Barclays accounts online, and it seems that charges are still being added to them. Should this be happening? I haven't had an official statement for a while and have received no letters chasing me for the overdraft, but should I be worried about this?

You are in IVA aren't you davram? If so, they shouldn't be doing this.

I'd get in touch with your IP and tell them about it.

Your account should not be accessible? My connect current account was 'closed' and gone from the the system when the IVA went through I had an 0/D of £600. My loan account was shut too of £400. I can't get into the account anymore

Best to ring them and ask? Nothing to worry about

My Barclays account is still open. Ok, there was no overdraft on there, but it's still available for me to use. Only changed it because Barclaycard were one of my creditors.

If they are still adding charges though, the account must still be current. Either ring yourself or get your IP to do it.

Thanks Jan & NBNA.
I'll drop Melanie an e-mail and ask someone to look into it. As I said, I find it odd that I haven't had any statements or correspondence from them, not even to chase me for money. I only looked at it to see if it was closed down, but am now a bit unnerved by it.

I forgot to add that in my case, Barclays current account didn't vote at the IVA and so knew nothing of IVA till they asked me. I had to get my IP to to write to them to confirm. That might esplain what's has happened to you...a simple fix really..then your account will 'vanish'

Yep, mine too - have looked a few times to see if it is still accessible on line but its definately gone. Incidentally, we recently received a letter suggesting that our Barclays debt had been sold on to another company. I didnt realise you could sell debt - didnt occur to me that it had a value.....

They sell them on for a nominal fee I believe. Pity we can't offer them that same sum and write our own debts off!

Hmm,interesting. Barclays never voted on mine either. Maybe they are unaware of my IVA. However, I still would have expected some form of recognition from them that nothing is being paid into the account and charges are accruing. I used to get a letter for just going a couple of quid over the agreed overdraft, but now both accounts are well overdrawn and I don't get any correspondence. Of course it could be that my branch haven't been made aware yet by the powers that be.

I also have an account with Barclays who keep adding charges every month - when my statement comes this week the charges, if added, will take it over the od limit! I have been in touch with Debt Free Direct and sent them my statements every month and they have said not to worry as it is just a different department. You would have thought that by now they would learn to talk to each other though!!

You would have thought so, they do when you have missed a payment, but not, it seems, when you have sorted your finances out.

Have you tried ringing Barclays yourself Ian? I presume you are in an IVA and this is an old account?

We have tried to contact them but get the brush off - they have signed up to the IVA so there is only a limited amount of damage that they can do! I will let Debt Free Direct sort it out - after all they are getting well paid to do it!!

There's no damage they can do. As you say, they are bound by the IVA and they will have to take all the charges off. Lets hope DFD get it sorted for you.
