my sister has run up a large american express debt £5,000.00 her business is now failing and she is having trouble meeting the repayments, american express passed it to a debt collection agency who phoned sometimes 3 times a day and the guy was very very rude, they are now saying that they are going to force her to sell her home to reclaim the money although she has made them an offer to pay off the debt.

Also as of today with charges the debt has become 6,100.00 what can she do as she does not want to lose the home that her and her husband have worked like trojans to keep, also can a e keep piling on these charges

I do advise going to the CAB there are different advisors there, If they cant help directly they might be able to put you in touch with someone who can.
IVA completed

Hi
Amex are a very aggresive creditor and will go for a charging order on your sisters property.
Thry will also add on costs
Does your sister have any other debts ?

Hi as andy has said amex are terrible as creditors and will be very agressive.

Is the debt collector RMA by any chance?

Try to get your sister to seek advise, the only way we were able to stop amex was to enter into an IVA.

Although an IVA was right for us, there may be another option for your sister

all the best,

Kirsty
