my son moved abroad 6mnths ago and since then his mail has been turning up at my adress.i have no contact number or adress for him and even though i have returned all the mail to the senders unopened, letters still keep coming. on finally opening 2 of them i found they were from debt collection agencies.i have phoned these people to stste that he has not lived at my house since he was 22,and is now 34 and married but they have told me there is nothing i can do about it. i told them that i have never owed anybody anything and pay cash for everything i have so could they please knock his name off my adress. they still said no and told me to get him to ring them. i pointed out if i could i would but i have no idea of his whereabouts and if i had i would tell them, but they still said there was nothing i could do and they could not take my adress off.where do i turn now? i.ve watched programmes of bailiffs going into peoples homes and i live here with 2 of my grandsons who i have brought up along with a third.and they are still at school.how are they going to feel if people come in start taking our stuff because of my son. please give me some answers if you can because i really do not know where to turn next.

Bailiffs will not take goods from your house, so do not worry about that.
The debts are your sons and nothing to do with you.Just return the unopened letters to sender, I'm sure that they will get the message soon.

Any letters addressed to him at your address just put a line through it and scribble on the front of envelope "NOT AT THIS ADDRESS" "RETURN TO SENDER" and post it back without a stamp.

Poor you - having to deal with this. And I expect you will have a few words to say to him when you catch up with him!
A firm word with the creditors, ought to do the trick, but some of them are very persistent and do not actually listen. I wonder why your son has been using your address, when he moved out over 12 years ago?
Do any other family members know your son's whereabouts, as some of these creditors will undoubtedly think that you are covering up for him.
Just caught up with this thread. I am so sorry that you are having all of this aggravation.
As Melanie and David have said, the credit companies cannot do anything, they are just trying to bully you.
Just send the letters back as suggested. Hopefully they will get the message soon.
