Hi

I used to work for a bank in the BR dept (before IVA that is!), and I believe most banks have a policy whereby they will offer anyone, including BR, a basic bank account with cash card. If you have an existing account with o/d and debit card they will close it but advise you to go in and open the basic account.

That's god to know Dumbeh. Halifax they froze our joint account and refused hubby a basic account or otherwise due to his BR. I had been a loyal customer of Halifax for many, many years and was /is angered by their attitude.

Nice to see other banks being more open minded.

I hate Halifax - they took £34 pounds from my account against a £20k debt - made a big dent that - not!!!!!!!!!

The colleague I have been helping, is attending court on Tuesday to apply for BR. To see her and her hubby all stressed is very upsetting and brings it all back.

I hope Tuesday is straightforward, then its the phonecalls with OR to deal with.

Going BR is certainly not an easy option.

Tuesday was straighforwad, apparently the clerk was very helpful and appreciated the efforts made to repay the debts. No need to see the judge and have telephone appointment with OR next week.

I'm interested to see the allowances granted and will update as soon as I can.

Glad it went ok Julie - be interesting now to see how the OR interview goes as the rules have tightened up recently.
