I went into Nationwide today to open a basic flexaccount so I could use the e-savings and guess what?? from two weeks ago they stopped taking on customers who are bankrupt or in a IVA!!! how rude!! so now I have no idea how to get a savings account. I really don't want to use my mum. Now I'm back to square one! [:(]

what is this world coming to???

You can open an E savings account with a lot of banks getting 6.0 AER gross interest and not just with NW.

You don't even need a current account. But obviously you need a way of paying into it. A basic bank account with the Halifax? Appy online and fill in some forms and then sent a copy of your PP or Driving Id and that's it.You don't have to say you are in an IVA or BR.

While Halifax are ok about IVAs I don't think they allow undischarged bankrupts to hold an account with them.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

Abbey National do a savings account and accept people with IVAs (sorry don't know about bankrupt) as they don't do credit checks as it is a savings account. Just need usual ID and NI number. Perfect!

I phoned them and they told me they have no plans to close the accounts of people who are are bankrupt, so I would imagine the same applies to people in IVAs.

Probably the best Basic/simple account outthere with a very decent interest rate matched only by the very best normal Bank accounts. No charges when using your card aborad!

Incidentally, in their terms and conditions NW wouldn't upgrade a cash card to a debit card if you are on an IVA. This has been one of their conditions for a while. So from this I assume there will be no closure of NW Bank accounts for people with IVAs

There is nothing to say they will not opened an account if you are on an IVA.

Only HSBC and First Direct is officially closing normal accounts as they are doing an IVA sweep.

Bit concerned ....

If Nationwide decides to close all IVA clients' Flexaccounts then,
1.would they give enough notice so that another account/ options can be explored ?
2.what options do I have ( I opened this account just before the IVA proceedings ) 3.would I loose the money that i have in the account? & the e-savings account...??

Thanks

Hi
They won't but if they did then YES you would be given notice, probably 28 days, and NO you certainly won't lose any money.

I opened a basic bank account with the co op pre IVA, I opened an instant access saver account last week, post IVA acceptance.
The basic account comes with a debit card.
