hi to all
i was just wondering if any one knows what the chances are of nationwide upgrading my account to a debit card account.
i dont want to leave the nationwide as they provide internet banking and also report on the conduct of the account to credit reference agencies which will help in the long run !! 32 months to be exact ...
i have had the account from the start of my iva and never missed a direct debit or incurred any bank charges
i have a top up debit/credit card but this seems quite expensive at times also due to work traveling it is almost impossible to top up whilst abroad and i dont want to put salary straight on to the card as it seems an expensive option ie cash machine charges etc
sorry for length of post

Hi
There is a chance that they will upgrade if you go into the branch and ask.I would also be upfront with them about the IVA.
Forum member James C had a recent upgrade, but I can't remember whart bank it was with.

Hi, We are 21 months into our IVA and we have a debit card with Nationwide but we had this before we started the IVA and we they weren't one of our creditors, so we were able to keep it. Not sure that is any help to you.

This was with Abbey.

I mad an appointment and went in person. When they tried the up grade on the computer it was rejected. But the branch manager told me that the other day the same thing happenend and he opened a new account.

So my upgrade from a baisc to debit account was rejected. but when they tried for a brand debit account it was upgraded, perhaps ask for a new account from word go, dont for get that on both occasions they do a credit check, so with some poeple two credit searches may go against you.

I have read on another site that Nationwide won't upgrade people who have been bankrupt even if they are discharged, but they will sometimes open a new account for them. I don't know if this will apply for someone in an IVA - it might be worth a call to customer services.
