We have a natwest basic account and tried online to upgrade as we struggle to get cash in our location. Online said no 3 months ago :-(
Well rang them today, informed re IVA and straight pass! Gotta pay £8 per month but worth it so that. Don't have to run around town to get my cash...
Moral of story,.. I rejected online ring them up..

Hi no money

Whilst a good result why not try nationwide fr their flex account ?

You get a debit with the cash card plus account , can use any cash point and best of all free

I'm lucky having just made my last payment , but remember in the early days when £8 a few days or even a week before payday was a fortune.

Just a thought
Last payment made April 2012
Certificate received 1st Nov 2012

Wouldn't they upgrade to the Select Account as that's non fee-paying but you can use any cash point.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Lesley, you cannot get a select account these days, as ours was a select one and it was changed to the basic one the same as everyone else last year.

The only accounts with the Natwest you can use any cash machine these days is the paid ones.

The free ones you are only allowed to use Natwest / RBS cash machine's or Tesco ones. I am lucky living in the city I have a Natwest near me and a Tesco which were the ones I always used before the change anyway.

Hi footiemad
I called the telephone banking section re a direct debit and then asked if I could swap. They bit me through to the department that arranges it and only asked 1 question... How long have I lived at my home. Then passed!

Try it

Peejayel, I have the select account, it costs me nothing each month and I can use any card machine.

I had a solo account which they changed to basic and I wasn't happy with this so applied for the Select...not select silver that costs £8.00 @ month. I applied online and was accepted, I then went in branch to chat things through absolutely dreading him saying something but he didn't.

Taken from Natwest website:

Current accounts

Select Account- our regular account that gives you flexible everyday banking with no monthly account fees.

Select Silver Account- great if you like films and music, European travel and want straightforward banking. Monthly account fee is £8.

Advantage Gold- is packed full of benefits including
up to 10% holiday discount, 5 * travel insurance and
mobile phone insurance all for just £12.95 per month.

Student Account- first year undergraduate going to
university? An account to help you while you are a student.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Sorry Lesley your right, I got my accounts muddled I was thinking of the Natwest Step Account which they changed to a basic one,
I didn't think I was allowed a select account.

Doesn't really affect me ,as I said I use the Natwest bank to withdraw money anyway as it's my nearest LOL

Natwest is closest to my work but I would rather have a choice, why they allowed me to upgrade not sure but they did and I didn't question it.

I did wonder if you were thinking of the Solo account which by the way I was more than happy with. x

I applied for the Silver Select account online at the weekend and waiting to hear the result. It's £8 per month but covers mobile phone insurance and other benefits so fingers crossed!...

i have recently (yesterday) upgraded from thenatwest basic to select silver account, the one with all the extras like mobile phone insurance and travel insurance, one very good extra for me is unlimited access to my credit file via experian

I am not allowed overdraft or chequebook, however get everything else, especially the much needed anywhere ATM access

I originally applied for this last october when they changed the rules on the old step account and was declined however it seems good account management has helped and they said there was a flag on my file with an auto approved ruling for the account upgrade

I definitely think it is worth calling rather than applying online if you are still in your IVA

It was nice to take a somewhat normal step back into regular financial world even if limited at this stage

FYI i am 2 years into my IVA

cheers all
