Another good reason to avoid these sort of accounts - at least with mainstream banking you can go into a branch and speak to someone.
I do hope it all gets sorted this weekend and that the banks compensate anyone who has been subject to charges.
Computers are wonderful things when they work properly but when they go pearshaped then we just cannot cope anymore.

totally agree harpic but the paid for services are good in other respects, and i notice that card one isnt affecteed and they use Natwest.
Basic mainstream banking has the same problem such as halifax and hsbc wont allow branch access
I think there should be an overhall of the banking industry and stand by what I say about thinkbanking that they should stand on their own two feet and get their own sortcode and banking licence like Secure Trust

Thankfully we have a Nationwide and Barclays account which is not affected.
We will have to agree to disagree about paid for accounts such as Thinkbanking. I think they are good if you cannot get an account anywhere else but otherwise I'd always stick with mainstream banking.

Thanks Harpic although ive got to say after a lengthy discussion with a nationwide fraud and debt officer and after having all my old accounts pre-bankruptcy closed and correctly noted on the credit file and allowing me to have savings accounts and flexaccounts Cashcard+ and use a jam jar approach and the fact that they offer secure emailing, a calender view, text services, the ability to withdraw cheques, faster payments and a visa debit card I have decided to go back to Nationwide, I just hope that I dont have a problem with them as they were really good pre-bankruptcy and during the bankruptcy in 2009 so am hoping all will be ok.
Paid for services are still good but the hidden charges are something that need to be watched out for
Ive heard that sickness benefits are paid from an RBS Account so I am guessing I wont get my benefits on monday bbut hope i will

Apart from the fact that Nationwide would not grant us a full account (pre IVA) whereas Barclays did, including credit card!! I have been very happy with the service from Nationwide. The online banking is great.

I was so weiry using them as I owed them about £20k in the bankruptcy and when I tried to open an account post bankruptcy it got closed and referred to the fraud team but after a discussion with them it was allowed.
Aparently they would look at upgrading my account in 18 months if I have income and expenditure and dont overdraw the account

The NatWest chaos is quite worrying, we seem to be just a busted microchip away from financial meltdown.
Maybe grandma's biscuit tin under the bed wasn't such a bad idea.

Extended by 12 months in lieu of equity March 2012.
F+F offer accepted May 2012.
C of C received August 2012.
IVA dropped off credit file 24th May 2013.

I've never bothered about upgrading - I have a debit card which is accepted everywhere, can check my online account and it is up to date and transfers between banks are instant.
We've kept the Barclays one going as it is a full acount with cheque book (which is useful sometimes) and it was not one of my creditors (Barclaycard was the wifes creditor). It also helps on the old credit record.

Despite this I'm still happy with the service I've received from Natwest and still exceeds what HSBC did for me.
Luckily this hasn't affected me though so if it had the above may have been different. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Have RBS Branches been supportive of think banking customers? Or are they just turning them away?

RBS branches may have no idea about Think Banking. I think their priority is for their own customers.

Harpic - dont you think its abit naughty RBS not supporting others who use accounts that use their sort code, paying in books etc

I havent been in to a branch so i cant comment, on past experiences though Natwest staff are pretty clueless when it comes to Think Banking but RBS have been great. x
