We had a situation now where getting a VD card for debtors on IVA was a problem and now its all freely avaliable? I have two and will have three when NW changes over to Visa.Great of course.

It just goes to show that the Banks are constantly reinventing 'plastic' pointlessly. We only needed either a visa/mastercard of a credit or debit form which we had in the 90s! There was never, any need for V. Electrons/SOLOS cards why have them and why the change now?

The answer is to have electronic use ONLY payment cards to service the developing[poorer world] and the young and those in debt. But Maestro was more of a marketing response to the VE card and was for all. SOLO and VE are really in the same appple cart.
The O2 card where VISA debit was avalaible to all ages made SOLO and VE redundant over night.

Now rich and poor should have the same type of electronic payment cards....(&&(^%^^ O2 helped break that stupid unfair division!

Halifax needs to follow and change....that nasty sluge green embossed VE card they offer is horrible.

If the replacement for the Solo is a full authorisation card it will still work in the same way as a Visa Electron, i.e. can't be used at pay at the pump, automated ticket machines etc.
Ah that's why I couldn't get cinema tickets out of the michine even though I had paid for them online.
7 year IVA completed in December 2016 - there is light at the end of that tunnel

Are all Maestro/Solos changing? I have just opened a Think Banking account, received a Newcastle Building Society Maestro with an accompanying letter saying that my 'Think Banking' Mastercard will be with me soon.

I mentioned it to my Money Manager and they said it was a better card, more widely accepted.

I have to admit, being new to all this and so used to my Visa Delta, I don't know much about Maestro anyway so hoping that Mastercard symbol will enable me to use the card at things like the petrol pump etc.

Can't help there Nic.

I don't agree with paid for bank accounts when you can still get free banking. Thinkbanking have had bad press on here in the past with their customer services.
