Just received a txt from my bank stating that my account has been changed to a basic account and that I can only withdraw ££ from their cash machines? Is it just me or is every1 else having the same problem with Natwest basic accounts?

Another kick in the teeth for people trying to sort out their problems. Personally I would move my account if this happened.

I use my PO to withdraw cash from my cashminder account. The PO I use have struggled to stay open and every transaction helps to support their case for remaining so I pop in there when there's no queue. Safer these days too with all the cloning machines and people hanging around cashpoints.

Natwest part of the RBS insolvent empire...hahaha...the banks on IVA without knowing it.

Boycott them and RBS.

That's not good news, I'd be inclined to move my account as well.

Hopefully the other banks won't follow suit.

The Step changed to Basic with the added bonus of only being able to withdraw money from Natwest or RBS ATM's. Wonder why they call it the helping bank.
Which is nice when the closest Natwest is over 4 miles away from me. Plus if did not have a car be two bus journeys to get there.

Unfortunately it's not easy to change your bank account when you are insolvent so as much as it's a nice idea to boycott RBS it might not be possible for existing customers.

If they can change to the Co-op though, that has to be better than the basic RBS account.

That's true. I would recommend the Co-op over Natwest (not that I had any problems with Natwest) providing they aren't a creditor.

I'm going to wait and see if I find it inconvenient, I've always rated my Step Account but this has not made me want to stay loyal to them.

Luckily I do have a Natwest on my doorstep at work x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Yep i am the same...can no longer use the cash machine in work :( I'm paranoid about using cash machines outside in case they have been tampered with!
Anyway, i have a post office near work and a natwest about a mile walk from home so will wait and see how inconvenient it becomes..
i like my Step account so not overy impressed they have changed it!

We've just changed from RBS due to the inconvenience caused through them restricting where cash can be withdrawn. Now with Co-op, salaries will go into the new account in December & once I have changed all the DD's over (didn't use their switching service as takes 4-6 weeks) I will happily go into RBS & close all 3 accounts we have with them. Can highly recommend the Co-op!

What a shame Natwest have done this which will cause some people to have higher travel costs just to get to an appropriate cash machine. Can you get cash back in supermarkets and M&S as that be a way round it?
