Lesley - fab news!

Footiemad - I think I've heard about Natwest lumping iva and BR together before. Doesn't explain why some people can upgrade and others not though. You could try the co-op?

Helen - I've replied to your thread but if you didn't sign the forms then their solicitors shouldn't be looking into PPI. Just send them a letter/email saying you don't have any mis-sold PPI. That should bring it to a close.

I noticed i could try to upgrade to the select account online but didn't want to try incase i get knocked back.

Did anything change with your Step/Basic account number etc? ie will they send you a new Visa debit card?

I'm wary of making changes at this time of year incase i need to wait a new card, set up new standing orders etc.

Hi Susie - I wish I hadn't tried because its amazing how bad it makes you feel when you get those horrible words of decline thrown at you. However, I really like my Nat West account as it is so easy to use online and the cash machine thing is not really an issue with me but a cheque book would have been really handy. The amount of times I have had to give the kids cash to take to school to pay for various things! Another thing is I have never thought of myself as being Bankrupt although I suppose technically I am x

You aren't bankrupt Footiemad but Nat West have been known to lump all insolvencies together and give us the same underwriting status.

You're not bankrupt - it's not the same.

My mortgage provider wrote and told us that we were bankrupt and I actually phoned them to tell them I wasn't I was so insensed by it!!

One of the questions was 'have I ever been bankrupt' I said no and got accepted straightaway. I'm not sure if I'll have a new account number or not, it said accepted, they will send me a new Visa Debit card and a cheque book (I requested one) and so I'll update when this comes through. Worth a try and I didn't mind doing it online as if I got rejected it would have been what I was expecting x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

I tried online Lesley under the "upgrade my account" section and it didn't ask any credit related questions. Maybe I should have tried another way. Anyway, as I said earlier I am happy with the account that I have so I will leave it alone now. I just felt miserable and fed up when the word bankrupt in huge letters appeared on my computer screen - instant migraine. which has now gone thanks to 2 sumatripton x

I went in to my nearest branch to pay a cheque in and was told I had the step / basic account did I want to speak to some one in the branch about upgrading my account.
Had a chat was told I could not have an account with an overdraft facility. They then asked if I wanted to sign on to the Select Silver Account.
So have had two new cards sent out, one which was the new Basic card and the other the Select Silver. Which prompted me to pop in to the bank to find out which card was I supposed to use.

j.ct - it not supprised they are happy to give you an account and charge £8 per month to do so - Banks do NOT make any money on basic accounts - thats why it took years before many of them, offered these basic accounts.
Unfortunately more and more of these package accounts are appearing - and i am sure in the end we wont have any option but to take them.

I agree ginger - I think we will end up paying for an account sooner rather than later.

I too have applied for the Select account online following my annoyance about my step account- can't use many cash machines or 'pay at pump' petrol stations. I said no to the overdraft and it got accepted with no problems! Just have to sign some stuff and send some ID and I will once again have a well functioning account. I am planning to do an IVA in the new year so hopefully as I opted for no overdraft my account will be allowed to continue.

Lee - you should be fine as long as you don't have any debt with the bank (loans, credit cards, overdraft on another account etc). Good luck with your iva. Have you contacted any firms yet?

Try the Co-op - you get a debit card which you can use anywhere.
