Hi, I have the NatWest account and today picked up a leaflet in branch about Cashback Plus their new debit card loyalty programme. I've just activated my card online to receive this to earn rewards as I spend. If you're with NatWest might be worth registering...it's only 1% but as they say it all adds up and if you're going to buy something anyway why not claim a tiny bit back.

I worked out that just my weekly shop for basics would get me back £20 a year --- add in petrol, and all the other stuff you have to buy and it is probably well worth it -- every little helps :-)
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.

I just think if you're going to spend it anyway and it costs you nothing, might as well sign up which is why I did. Agreed Foggy it will all add up.

You are not able to use the Cashback with a Basic Account (which we have). That said, I did register and have managed to clock up a massive cashback of 34p so far - maybe they haven't noticed that I've got a Basic Account yet though they probably will if they have to pay out!

That's a shame and a bit discriminatory in my opinion. I have the select account so should be ok but why not on all accounts?

Because Natwest are now a shocking bank Lesley! They seem to treat their customers as though they don't matter and are forgetting they have been bailed out by the taxpayer.

Hubby has his business account with them and trying to speak to his business manager (on an 0845 number) is like trying to get blood out of a stone.

To be fair I've always found them to be ok to date - however, I've heard this before. I'm much happier with them than I was with HSBC. They're always polite, maybe they don't bother me as I've got nothing and they can see that when I go in.

First I have heard of this and just looked at their website as I have a Natwest account. It specifically excludes those with a Basic Account, a Cash account or a Step account, basically you can only do it if you have a paid for account. So as usual they are taking with one hand and giving less back with another.

I've also found Natwest to be very good with me and although it is not available on the basic account which I have, I don't think it is discriminatory in my own opinion. I am just grateful to have a free bank account with a decent internet option. Like all banks, everyone has a difference experience, the Co-op were awful with me and I was current account customer for over 20 years.

We have got a Basic Account and a Select Account, which we don't have to pay for, but I only opened the Select Account to get a cheque book. I can't be bothered to switch all our S/O's and DD's to the Select Account just to get the cashback and when I asked Natwest if they would credit check if I wanted to upgrade our Basic Account to a Select Account (even though we've already got one!), they said they would so I am not going to go down that route in case they notice we've got an IVA and withdraw all our accounts. Like Lesley, we have been fairly happy with Natwest since we opened our account with them just before our IVA's.........so far.

I may be wrong but I am sure on my log in it would only allow me to try to upgrade to a silver select account which is paid, not sure if it was different if you tried in branch. Then again it is entirely a non starter now anyway as I just got notification they know about my IVA from the IS and so I can only keep the basic account running. I am happy with that though.

I was told that you can't upgrade online and to upgrade from Basic to Select you need to go into the branch. As we had the Basic Account I needed to open a Select Account to get the cheque book and was able to do this online but it was simply opening a new account.
