No - your IP is not in the business of assisting with car purchasing. But there are some finance companies who will assist you if you are already in an IVA. I think that Andy posted details on a thread yesterday.

Has any one had any dealings with the companies and what advice would any one give, giving the options

HP
Personal Lease
Contract lease

etc.

also I assume I will need to contact my IP and ask for a variation meeting?

also

if my salary then is alot more than my current job, would it even it's self out i.e. with the car thing or would I need to be IVA'd

Thanks Again

I've had my IVA nearly 2 years and this is the best info I have had since.

Hi
The first thing to do is to speak with your IP as you will need their permission to take out credit.
You are correct in that the extra wage can be off set in part or total by the costs of running a car and as long as you are making at least the original payments to your IVA a variation meeting will not be needed.
Good luck with the new job.

didn't get job, but still need car as can't rely on Public transport or other people for lifts everywhere for interviews, I have been hiring cars for days here and days there but the cost is getting out of hand and a fixed cost would be better. I wrote to the IP advising that I may be getting a new job and supplied all the figures etc and the said NO.

This IVA is probably the worst thing we have ever done, we have paid for 2 years and not asked for one bit of help from the IP and plainly "unfortunately we can't give you permisison to get any credit for a car." what a nightmare, I advised that I maybe made redundant and still No.

Any other advise or any letter templetes or anybody do this and get them to agree and how they did it would be great

Hi
You could ask your IP for a payment break and use this money to buy a car.You could tag the missed payments ono the end of your IVA.The problem that you have is the running cost, can you run a car and still pay your IVA payments ?

Hi Andy

yes that wouldn't be an issue.

The other thing, which could be possible but not sure if I could do it, is part of my salary structure incorporates a Car allowance, The IVA company in question took this into account when the IVA went through. At the time i was banned from driving for one way or another, I now have my licence back, my questions are.

1, Can I ask them to take this amount off my original wage and ask for a review meeting?
2, the above and get a car with the allowance, which will incur more tax thus less wage.
3, if I sent them the companies car allowance policy, stating that I should have a car to be able to travel from site to site and the car should be in a condition adhering to the company standard.

Would they be more inclined to accept this?

Thanks

C

The car allowance should not have been included as part of your salary, as it is needed to enable you to provide a suitable car, but your IVA will need to be formally varied if you are suggesting that your monthly payments be reduced.

Perhaps a face to face meeting with your IP would be more productive.

Well I wrote to my IP and asked them if this would be the case. The IVA administrator said she was unsure but would check, that was 3 days ago.

Would a face to face be worth it, and would the IP necessarily travel to see us?

Hi
I,m sure that the IP would not travel to see you,but you could go and see them and try to agree a way that will allow you a car, afterall you have an allowance for one in your salary.

Wow, I'm a little concerned that the car allowance was included in your salary by the IP. Are you certain that this is the case?

If so, you should be able to sort out the situation. Sorry to hear about the job by the way, it is tough out there.

For information on IVA's or the other possible solutions, these links could be useful.

Hi - I would certainly push for a face to face meeting with your IP. Hopefully, he/she will agree to a solution for you as a car is such a neccessity for most of us these days.

The car allowance certainly should not have been included, however if you were banned from driving why did your company still pay you a car allowance?
