My Nationwide account was opened before the IVA. It's only since the new cards that we have had problems, although they do seem to be not as IVA friendly as they were.

As regards the Co-op, phone them up and enquire about the Cashminder Account. They are usually ok. Are you on the voters list? This does make a difference with them.

Phone up the Co-Op again Mitchymoo. They have local call centres and were brilliant. When i did, they asked if i had an IVA i said i didnt yet butmy credit rating was rubbish and was applying for one.I was totally honest with them, Chap on the phone didn't pry any further and i was approved there and then for the basic account. You get a debit card with Visa so can shop with it. no cheque book or overdraft, not that i have written a cheque in years and i DO NOT WANT AN OVERDRAFT ANYMORE!!! so all worked out for me. Nationwide will be the reserve account you never know when you need one!!!

The Co-op are brilliant, and the only reason I don't use them now is that I've got a pre BR full Nationwide account so it seems a shame not to use it. I've kept the Co-op account open so if Nationwide upset me I'll go back to the Co-op!

Good luck with the bank account, I'm sure you'll get the cashminder account. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

I'm surprised at the Co-op, you normally get a decision immediately. Did they say why you had to wait?

Yes they said it had been approved in principle, they need to look into it also nationwide same????? weird i only got my lloyds tsb account last month whilst on the phone she said you have been accepted for any account which we got the upgraded account. might just see how we go with lloyds, an set up savings with ybs-morg provider cos they offer a cash card just cant use it in shops or over phone! :(
also with lloyds r halifax cc has an arrangement so my husband says he doubts they take any money from it??

Sounds like it's getting harder for people entering IVAs to get bank accounts. Fingers crossed for Co-op for you. I am with Lloyds too - transferred to them before I submitted my proposal but no problems since.

I`m with Yorkshire Bank. I did open my account a month before I started IVA proceedings, so I don`t know how they would recieve applications post IVA. Up to now I have been really impressed with them. I have a Maestro card and very good internet banking.

Hang in there mitchymoo, you`ll soon be fine...The proposal drafting stage is most certainly stressfull and emotional, that`s for sure...Credit cards, eh?
