is it possible to open anew bank account whilst in iva ? im currently with natwest and in aug one of my dd for house ins had gone up by about £2.00 , my account was short by £1.22 so they bounced dd and charged me £35 putting me £33 ish overdrawn , then the following month they charged my £30 for being overdrawn. tried to argue my case, to get at least one of the charges reversed but they were rude and having none of it. my husband is with hsbc.... and although we dont have overdrafts and try to keep within limits sometimes a direct debit goes a couple of days before they are due ( hubby weekly paid ) and they are really good , they honour his payments prob cos money comes in every week but their charges are not so high .
so am i able to open an account with anone else or would i need to go thru my ip to gain consent ... but then agin would anyone give me a bank account

Hi Molly,

The Coop are IVA friendly but I think they will charge the same as Natwest if overdrawn! I can't see your IP having any issues with changing bank accounts as long as it is of the basic type.

Hi

I have a coop account, they are very friendly. I did go overdrawn once by 23p, which I corrected very quickly. A few days later I recieved a letter saying that if I go overdrawn they would close my account, I think it was a warning but its never happened since. I also think it was a standard letter. They didnt charge me anything.

Good luck.

The co op is the account I use and have had no problems whatsoever with it. Online banking and simple to use.
Discharged today the 8th feb 2012. View is much brighter now.
Continuing to rebuild our credit worthiness.

The co-op come highly recommended, not least by me as I use them, and the last time I looked the charge for bouncing a d/d was £19.50. Be aware though, as freelili points out, that if you bounce 3 within a set period (I think it is either 6 months or 12 months but I stand to be corrected on that) then they will close your cashminder account.

Regards.
