Hi Everyone,
Recently started IVA proceedings - Awaiting Documents to get the ball rolling. I have debts totalling £32,000 due to personal loans and the dreaded credit cards[:(]. Why the name 'HurtPride'? That's because since I started work over 20 years ago now, I have never not paid my bills etc. Now - I feel alittle hurt because it has come to the stage where I have had to seek help! Now I am dreading the phone calls and letters from the Creditors. Does anyone have any advice?

Hi Hurtpride and welcome to the forum,
Hold your head up high and be proud of yourself. Yes you have debts and need help, but you have been brave enough to recognise you have a problem and are dealing with it, well done.
We've all felt the way you do at the moment, but the fantastic guys and girls on this site will help you cope through what will be the ups and downs of the next few months while you sort out the right solution for you.
Keep posting as issues arise and the advice and coping strategy's will come flooding your way,

Hey HurtPride, welcome to the forum. You're in a great place here for support and advice. As Chardonnay has said, you should be proud that you are dealing with this. Time to stop beating yourself up and being kind to yourself. Its so easy to fall into debt and its a dark and lonley place to be.

Hi hurtpride and welcome to the forum.
All I can do is echo all of the above.
The early stages are so hard, facing it, sorting ut documentation and waiting for the meeting. Have a read of some of the blogs.

Stay strong it will so be worth while in the end , and then maybe we will see that name change as with quite a few others. You will get great support and technical advice as well on the forum keep posting.

I also echo what the others have said. I completely understand where you're coming from and the emotions you are feeilng are normal.

To know that you're not alone will be a great help and you are lucky you have found this forum. I wish I had found it sooner because it has saved my sanity a few times [:I]

If you have the time, read the blogs. You will get a feel for how others have dealt with IVA's, BR...the lot. It will give you a realistic viewpoint but also assure you, there is a solution and an end to the debt.

My advice would be to get the documentation you need to the IP as soon as possible, and try and press them to put forward your offer as soon as possible. This is the only real way to stop the creditor pressure, and I wish you the very best of luck with your application.

When I first had ideas about applying for IVA I visited the forum and got lots of help with issues that concerned me. Such as how others coped with the pressure of admitting they needed help with debts, also regarding how to deal with the Creditors once they realise you have not made any payments...not got to that stage yet, but I am sure the telephone calls and letters will start arriving very shortly! Already made enquiries about changing my current bank account to a basic one...cash card only for me for a while...but looking into having a prepaid card, and been searching through all your advice to which best one to go for.

You certainly sound a lot more positive. Glad that you have done so much to get yourself sorted.

The calls and letters will start as soon as you stop paying, and it is upsetting and stressful. Just remember though that hopefully you will have an IVA before long. Put up with them, don't answer if you don't want to. They will try to bully you, but don't let them.
