Hello everyone

I am new to this web site and I must say I have found it so helpful. Thanks to Andy, Melanie, Scaredkez, Skippy etc. and also Debtdummy who made me laugh(i read all the blogs). I have been following the forums for the last month prior to my IVA been accepted 2 weeks ago. I have been so tearful for the last month everyhing has happened so quickly. Just 6 weeks ago with lots of depts with 8 different ceditors banks, CCs ODs,loans etc. and now with this IVA solution in place. All because I was so careless with money and yes lived too much of the good life - it was all so tempting and easy what a mess i got into - yes i am sure you can all relate to it, the dreaded statements getting worse and worse the nightmare began and then no going back! Panic set in as I realized could not meet the minium monthly payments which was made worse by living of my CCs for basic living. I checked out Debt management companies on the internet for help/advice but it all looked so scary. Eventually among the horrible bills I got this advert letter from 'Debtfree' something so i rang them. They past me over to an Insolvency Practitioners finance company straight away and it all happened so quickly from there, had meeting with them also to finalize my 'financial details'. I cancelled all my creditors DDs (on instructions) and when they noticed this eventually then the nasty demanding letters started to come in - OMG more panic!! But i get none now.

I just hope I made the right choice with this IVA (never heard of one before until 2 months ago). I have been reading forums and hearing some failing etc. Not sure if i have set aside a realistic everyday living amount but i hope i can manage - just have to try and be committed, keep away from John Lewis, Debenhams etc. I know it's not going to be easy especially that i am alone in this. Oh yes i had to move bank a/c from Barclays to RBS and I must say I felt really sad about that because I liked Barclays and found them helpfull - mabye too helpfull! The CCs i dont have any emotions for because the more my dept was the more they raised the interest which didn't help matters.

It's so reassuring to know that I am not alone in all of this because I did think 'are there others like this or is it just me'. I know sometimes circumstances outside our control can't be helped but my debt was my own doing.

Hi Maz
Well an IVA is tough, but the rewards are well worth it.I hope you become an active member because your experiences are bound to help others.I am sure that there will be times in the next five years when you will feel down and "hard up",however having access to a forum where everybody knows exactly what you are going through will help you.
Regards

Thanks to everyone replying.

And all the best of luck to you LizzieJ, I hope it all went well for you and yes i think taking the day of work was good idea, there's no point in being at work and being agitated. I had to do the same and the worse thing was waiting for the phone to ring to get the outcome! but so far the company i am dealing with seem really nice and i hope hope you have the same.

Hi Jasperyogi

I hope it all goes well for you also as like me you are now one month into this horrible long road of hell or could it be the stairway to heaven god knows!! I suppose could look at it as a lesson in budgeting and should help in future years. I just can't get used it yet going into shops and having to have the right amount of cash available etc. I'm dreading Xmas time but then come January that's when it should be less stressful as there should be no more big heavy and i mean heavy packed pages of CC statements coming throught the letter box and me having the usual palpitations!!!

all i can say is keep your never for thenext 5 years, dont let anyone else upset of the fact that they seem to have nice new things chances are they have been bought on credit, and i foyu budget right you will have something left, and any money you get out after meeting your IVA committments is yours and on not the Banks.
