New to the forum - help please!

Hello All,

I have registered today and am just pulling my paperwork together to send to Melanie Giles and her team. I have been reading some very good reports about them and it has made me feel a little better today. This is quite a scary journey and I have been on a low for the last couple of weeks (not to mention my father has been ill too)!. Sorry, I am going on a bit now. Anyhow, rather than bombard Melanie with loads of questions, I wondered whether anyone can give me an idea of how long their process has taken from initial submission of paperwork to knowing the outcome of the creditors meeting? If I have been reading correctly, it seems quite a lengthy process?

My outstanding debts are as follows:

Lloyds TSB £15k credit card
Lloyds TSB £3k loan
Bank of Scotland £7k credit card
Newman DCA (AMEX) £4k credit card (horrible people but doing their job)
Egg £1.5k credit card
Barclaycard £1.5k credit card
Capital One £2k credit card
Freemans £1k
NDR (Additions) £600
NDR (Littlewoods) £1.3k
NEXT £800
Link Financial (MBNA) £600

Quite a list eh?

Any feedback or comments anyone has on these companies would be appreciated.

thats a list to be proud of!! Tsb were my biggest creditor(40k) and were happy with my trust deed(scottish version of an iva).

I would rest easy knowing that Melanie and her team are 1st class.

Have faith in Melanie's team they are extremely proffessional and will do all in thir power to help you.

Sorry i cant say how most of your creditors will vote but i do know that Lloyds are very accepting of an IVA if they know its your best offer.

Please feel free to ask as many questions as you need to and im sure other members will chip in with advice on your other creditors.

Hi there puzzlie and welcome to the forum.
You will be fine with Melanie, so no need to worry she always does her best.
Timescales can differ as all iva's are individual, it can depend on how quickly you get your documents back and if you own property as values I think have to be aquired. Try not to worry just ask all you want, understanding everything is very important, and we are always here for a bit of support if you have a down day.

Thank you. Yes you are right, I do need to get a valuation on my house (although the equity will be very low given the current climate).

I will keep plodding on with pulling it all together and keep fingers crossed.

[:D]hi there & welcome ! i had the majority of those creditors apart from egg and lloyds,& they all either voted yes or didnt bother to vote at all.as the others have said you are in very safe hands with melanie & her team,as i am with them and my iva was approved 2 weeks ago.i wish you lots of luck with your iva & its nowhere near as scary as you think it might be.mine took 8 wks from start to finish & the time just flew by! ps my list was much longer than your's so dont worry about that !! x

Hi Paula and welcome. You're in good hands with Melanie's team, they have sorted quite a few of our member's IVA's with great success. Be proud that you have taken steps to sort out your debts, it takes a lot of nerve to take that first step,

Hi Puzzlellie,
We are just going the the same process with Melanies team at the moment, What a fantastic company you will certainly be in good hands. We sent all our paperwork back 6 weeks ago and with a little luck we should be getting our proposal on Saturday Woo Hoo. If we get it back to the office for Monday then there might be a chance that the creditors meeting will be on the 3rd September. In total then it would have been 8 weeks.

welcome from me as well paula, we are with melanie and feel we are in good hands, we have sent all our documents through, but feel like i should be doing something. dont know what, its a waiting game.[:)]

Thanks for all your advice and support. It's nice to talk to people who are in a similar situation - it makes me feel less useless. My hubby is a complete saint with money and it came as quite a shock to him last year when I had to confess all. He has been so good at understanding and sticking by me which is more than I feel I deserve really. I have just been reading about another lady whose hubby threw her out so I do feel blessed in that way.

I do feel that financial issues make you feel more of a freak than any other issues. You can get help for alcoholism or gambling (providing you want to of course) but with money it just seems so much worse (sorry, back on that downer again)!

Anyhow, registering for this forum has certainly helped and it is lovely to know that support and understanding is available at the touch of a keyboard.
