Hi Oscarsmum1 and a big welcome to you, you will find this site invaluable and the advise second to non. I paid a small payment to each of my creditors on the advise of customer services when i applied for my IVA but to be honest i don't think it made any difference, other to let them know in advance that i was applying for an IVA as i included a letter covering why they'd got a small payment etc. Good luck with your IVA application, 5/6 years may seem like a long time but i'm now fast approaching the end of my 4th year and to be honest don't know where that time has gone it has gone very quickly. I wouldn't say it has been easy there are times when you want something and don't have the money but then again do you really need it is the answer and to be honest you find ways of saving money and it can be quite satisfying doing it too. I wish you all the best and don't forget that you are not alone in all of this, there are many many people who are still trying to make sense of their debts, you however have decided to do something about them rather than carry on worrying and having sleepless nights, good luck.
Om shanti, namesté, good luck to all who are embarking on the IVA journey, it isn't always an easy one but the outcome is the best.
IVA COMPLETED August 2012, received Completion certificate 18.4.13.
Hi Oscarsmum1!
I'm a little bit in front of you, have sent off all my paperwork and am now waiting for a proposal.
I also have a Yorkshire Bank A/C, they aren't one of my creditors - I was going to use this for my emergency fund, as I have also opened a co-op account for my direct debits and wages. (I was panicking about my pay going into my new account as I only just made the deadline for changing bank details with work..but I breathed a huge sigh of relief this morning when my wages went into my Co-Op account [:)])
I haven't made token payments, and have switched the phone onto silent. If I've received a letter I have phoned the creditor - the lady at the Halifax told me they'd already received notification that I was applying for an iva, and that was that.
I've found this forum friendly, helpful & full of encouraging support - and I'm sure you will do too!
It's nice to be important, but more important to be nice!
Glad your pay has been sorted out ok TOH - it is a worry when you move bank accounts.

It was a worry! I stayed up til midnight last night just to make sure....No idea what I thought I was going to do at that time if my pay had gone to my old account and been soaked up by my overdraft! At least I'll get a good nights kip tonight not worrying about my pay!

I can imagine how you felt - think I would have been the same!
Enjoy the nice long weekend!

It will make no difference at all whether or not you make pro rata payments and you can build up a little contigency amount by not doing it. It's unlikely to put a stop to calls or letters.

Thanks everyone for all your replies, I feel a lot better just having told someone! Its nice to know I can ask questions and not be judged, thank you! Think I will try and build a little contigency fund, got mot next month and no credit card to fund it any more!! Just fighting my way through a mountain of paperwork now to send off hopefully after this weekend just hope there are no major hiccups waiting to pounce!
