Newbie, Please be Gentle

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to say, what a great Forum, have been reading posts for a few weeks now, here's our story.

Totally ashamed of the Debt situation that we have got ourselves into, owing in total 80k,30k of which is a Northern Rock Loan. We had our Mortgage with them as well but when it came to having to re-Mortgage a couple of months ago,they wanted an extra £450 so we changed companies.

However, we still have the Unsecured Loan outstanding with them which has increased significently and we found it increasingly difficult to be able to pay this on top of the Credit Card Debts as well, so are hoping to get an IVA approved in the next few weeks. Got nothing to show for the Debt that we have,just taking Cash from Cards to pay for shopping,Fuel and General Household Expenditure, really stupid of us when we think back.Should have done something about our Debt situation a few months earlier but wanted to make sure that we got our Re-mortgage sorted first before tackling the Debts.

The past Three years haven't been good for us, I was seriously ill in hospital two weeks after My Mum Died, and have been diagnosed with a lifelong Blood Condition and have since lost my Dad as well but we're hoping that if we get the IVA approved, it'll be a fresh start into a Debt-Free Future, never going to use another Credit Card again for sure.[:)]

It's my Birthday today as well,received a couple of phone calls from Creditors but they didn't wish me a Happy Birthday, Lol[:D]

We have all been where you are with debt. I think most of us bury our heads in the sand and hope it will go away. I've used credit cards to get money from the hole in the wall and then gone straight into the bank and paid it over to my credt card!

I'm sorry to hear that life has not been kind to you over the past few years, you must feel as though nothing good is ever going to happen to you again.

I presume that you have your IP sorted out and that things are well on there way.

Our IP is going to be Melanie which we are really pleased about,highly recommended to us, although not spoken to her yet, just in process of having paperwork checked.

Just hope it gets accepted, a bit worried about the Northern Rock Loan. received letter from them today saying that if payment not received in 7 days, they will instruct Solicitors to take legal action, do you know if this is the Norm?
At present, sending in all my letters to Nicola,wondering whether I should ring her on Monday?[:(]

Hi Welcome to the forum. We are all in the same boat here, the good thing about this site is that some one here have started iva's or well into them so they can give you excellent advice. Also the experts join in and offer full support. You are not alone, please keep us up to date along the way and when a new subscriber joins you can forward your knowledge and support.
Happy birthday at least it's the weekend so try to leave your worries behind until Monday when Melanie and her team will be on hand to support you.

Welcome to the forum and happy birthday, hope you have a really nice one. It's not nice what you have been through over the last few years but you are on the right track now and I hope it all works out well for your future.

I used to do what Kallis did, take money out of my credit card(s) account and use that to live off or pay them back at the bank - crazy, I cringe now when I think about it. Never ever want to go back down that road again!!

I never want another credit card. I imagine at the end of 5 years anyway, I will be so used to paying cash for everything that I won't even think about it.

Yes,Kallis I know what you mean there. I used to pay money from CCs into my account to cover bills on time by cheque because they would bounce otherwise. You know, I've forgotten how to write a cheque? I don't have them anymore but then do we really need them, everything is electronically transferred.

I think I am lot more in control of my finances now as for the last year I have managed to live on what I have - so far!! [:)]
