That's true and you learn so much, I was very lucky that the company I went with have so far been really good but we were in such a state at the time that we jumped at the first company we found. If I had found this site I think we would have been more circumspect.
Life after IVA is wonderful.

Well which ever company you went with wiggle they must have been ok as I notice you have made your last payment well done and congrats, just out of curiosity which company was you with?xx and debt tired exacly the same happend to me, my husband did the same in a moment of despair with his parents they both walked in and started asking us questions, I didnt have a clue what they was on about then it came to light that he'd told them, it was the best thing ever as from then on we decided not to hide it and tell people and everyone has been so supportive, his parents have read up on it all and have offered us a lump sum to see if we could do it that way, have you spekn to mels team about a f&f? If not then speak to them, Tina was very helpful with me as when I first approached them we did not have the f&f, it was a couple of days later when hubbys parents offered it us.

I agree that it was the best thing to happen. Once I'd got over the shock of them knowing,it was a relief. Apart from our children they are the only people we've told. Which is why it is so good to have people on here to talk to.

Haven't mentioned F&F to Mel's team yet, but as my parents are very keen for us to move on (it has been a difficult, very frugal 12 years)
perhaps we should.

This site has been a lifeline for me whether I'm posting or just hovering in the background.

I have some excellent friends on here, some of whom I have actually met and a lot of us are friends on Facebook as well. It's nice to put faces to names.

Wishing you all the best in your journey, we had our IVA's accepted just over a week ago and already I feel completely different and so much more relaxed. We haven't told anyone about the IVA for several reasons, one being that as we have not had enough money for several years, other people (including family),won't be aware that anything has changed and it will be a great day in 5/6 years when our IVA's are complete, for us to not be the "poor relations". Also, our debts are massive and none of my family have got enough money for us to do a F&F. Our feeling is that in the end, we got ourselves into this position, so we are going to get ourselves out of it and I don't want to feel beholden to my family in any way - although I'm sure if there was a real disaster, they would help us out with a couple of hundred pounds to repair the car or whatever. My sister-in-law is very materialistic and I really couldn't face telling her about the situation I'm in (plus she's married to my younger brother so that makes me feel completely useless!) Anyway, good luck with everything and hope you get everything sorted out soon.

You get so involved in the lives of people you've never met, but it's as if you've known them for ages.

To go through the IVA alone without knowing anyone else in one or having the forum would to me have been disaster, I needed support from members even if just to answer a query I had without the need to bother my IP. Sometimes just a chat totally unrealated to debt helps. Here we can be ourself and not pretend as I often have to with other people...takes me back to the poor relative scenario but at the end of the day we're here for a reason whatever it is and choose to be here so it must be a good place to be or we'd have long gone by now. x

WELL SAID LESLEY

unfortunately i only found the forum circa 2.5 years ago, by this time i had endured my stress and anguish all alone as i had confided in nobody the state of my financial predicamant.

Its helped me no end the last 12 months and on reading posts on various topics from people it takes me back to the times i had exactly the same exeprience.

I hope to be able to continue contributing and always try not to sound smug or un sympathetic as someone who has gone full circle and dropped off the insolvency register now such is the passage of time. As someone said in another post yesterday , ive really learned the true value of money and the thriftyness i was forced to adopt when i was stoney broke at times during my IVA is serving me well now post IVA

12 months -- it is always good to hear from those, like you, who have completed the journey and are living proof that it can be done :-)

Personally I would like to hear more of how people have got on after IVA -- after all, that is what we are all striving for.

I think I could have managed with just the two of us sorting it as we've had no problem with the IP at all but, having found the forum then I have learned such a lot over the years so it has been a help, especially when stepdaughter had problems and I pointed her in Mel's direction.

Wouldn't have been able to do that without the forum.

I still think you should change your user name 12 months to go.

is it possible to change my username and still keep all my posts as attributed to me ? or do i have to cease using 12 months and start a new profile ?

If so where can I find how to do this ?

I wasn't aware you could change your username yourself? When I changed mine to a less anonymous one Admin did it for me. I'll signpost this to admin 12 months and they'll sort it for you after getting in contact to see what you want to change it to.

However, if you are successful you can just advise them it's done now. x
