That is sooo kind of you Ang. I do drive in the day anywhere, just been to torquay and back but I HATE night driving. I dont mind staying over either, would be a break. I can arrange the children in advance.

The company would be nice though and saves you going alone. You can always drive here and leave your car and come with us, or if hubby not going then we could go together. Need my own room though too embarrassed I snore. lol

I live in Lytham St Annes and any of the following would do:

Leeds, Manchester,Preston,Southport, Warrington (poss) - and I notice somebody mentioned Blackpool - sorry I hate it but ok for a meeting probably - I know I should like it as I am 6 miles down the road but don't unfortunately.

Saturday nights ok but please please not the next 3 Saturdays - "who for nancy" fan!!!

May by me or both of us would have to see how things are on the day but I would have no problem coming on my own.

I think it depends on the hotel, the one in Birmingham stated a credit card but I booked in without showing a thing! It was a free room but still!!
You could try one of those pre pay thingies as a back up.
I wouldn't travel on the train at night either!!
Elizabeth, I agree with you on Blackpool, Lytham is much nicer! I was just thinking of cheap places to stay in the area!!

If anyone is thinking they might want to stay, then if you book through laterooms.com though you need card details to make the booking you dont need to pay until you get there and can cancel up to about 1 0 clock on the day if I remember rightly. So lady h you could book the room with sons credit card details but could pay cash on arrival. Thats what I did. No money would be taken from the card.

If you register with the cashback site Quidco you can get cashback booking through Laterooms - only 5% but every little helps!

If you book on line some of them don't want payment before. When you get to hotels they want card in case you order any extras (like you say in case you do a runner) but that can be a cash card. If you are not going to charge to your room then you don't need to swipe. The only time you need to charge is after the bar shuts because paying by cash implies you have just walked in off the street - not allowed.
