I think it's all down to the individual and how you want to deal with things regarding the calls.
Maybe the way creditors deal with this type of thing has changed since your initial stages Kallis, as the economy has changed greatly, unemployment is soaring and more and more people are finding that they are unable tp pay their debts....just a thought.

No, I believe Mercers are still the bullies they always have been.

Believe me, they are persistent, and they constantly threaten with debt collectors, although they don't turn up very often.

It has happened to a few posters on here. They have always been quite polite but you don't have to answer the door or speak to them. You certainly don't have to make a payment to them. They usually listen to what you have to say and if you are going for an IVA they will go back and speak to whichever company has instructed them.

I actually think things are getting worse. When I proposed my IVA 3 years ago only MBNA were a real pain, but now it seems that all creditors have turned nasty.
Probably because more and more of us are applying for IVA's!!! But then that's the creditors fault for lending us all that money in the first place (not that I'm saying I'm blameless - I gladly took it at the time!!!) x
Whilst my IVA was being processed, I wrote to all my creditors explaining I was having financial difficulties and that a third party was dealing with it. I asked them to contact me by letter as I would not discuss my finances over the phone due to telephone scams.
This worked for a few weeks, but then received mountains of letters.
Once my IVA was accepted, it was a great feeling to forward all letters and just say I have an IVA accepted to any creditors that still phoned.
This has now stopped - and yes the postman skips passed my house!
Mine took no notice of my letters telling them I wouldn't deal over the phone!
At the end of the day, the creditors employ people in call centres who work on commission, so whatever means they can employ to get money out of you, they will.

HI
You sound as though you have been pretty luckly with creditors! I found the creditors themselves were not to bad on the phone but it is the debit collecting agents that are the problem RMA, Regis and Mercers were the ones that I found hard to deal with. All they are interested in is getting money off you and I found it better to avoid speaking to them.
I still have a Barclays account they did not take any money from it.

Are you saying that the guys in the call centres are on commission on the % they can get from debtors? I very much doubt that, I think they are just doing their job.
When it gets to the likes of Mercers, debt collectors, that's when it gets nasty and is commission based??

The one's in the call centres, who are employed by the DCA's or the creditors are paid commission on top of a basic wage. Did you not watch Channel 4 a few weeks ago?
They may be doing their job, but they do not have to be so nasty and bullying about it.
We have had some real horror stories on here about the threatening phone calls.
I had dealings with both Barclaycard and Mercers, and there wasn't much to choose between them.

I apologise for my naivety, I've only experienced a few calls. I assumed the callers were ringing from the call centres of the companies you owed money to. I didn't see the programme on C4.
Guess it depends on the person speaking to you and how they want to make their commission, everyone is human after all.....but I will remain positive and hope that I don't receive any calls of the bullying type.
