Hi Kerri, I have the same ac for a while now and could not say a bad word about it. Just got my card activated today am looking forward to not having to find a working cashpoint all the time, also need to bear in mind that at least you dont have to go to post offices with huge queues to top up all the time.

I'm hoping I won't have to have my salary paid onto the card, in which case I won't have to withdraw any cash. I will pay for my petrol with it, and might do my shopping online as I found I spent less than when I go to the supermarket! I will pay £5.95 per month, however many times a month I use it, but I can switch to a different charge when I pay each time I use it, I'll see which one works out cheaper.

I may well end up with a Gregory Pennington account, but I am keeping them as a last resort. The guy I spoke to on the phone was rude, pushy, patronising and generally obnoxious - you might be able to tell I didn't like him! I only wanted more details about the bank account, but he kept on and on at me to let them try another IVA for me. Everyone else is probably ok, but he gave me my first impression of the company, and I wasn't impressed and I think I let him know that! I might be more interested if they get internet banking, as I can't imagine not having that!

Onwards and upwards!!!

Hi skippy
I had internet banking before and must be honest I havnt missed it., but then I dont have to do all the swopping from acs as I did before the iva. They just text me as my wages go in and then I know what Ive got so dont really need to keep checking as before.

I can understand about the bloke being pushy putting you off, it would have me, but they were fine with me but I was with them going for my iva at the time.

If I need them I'll make sure I talk to someone else! Thankfully he's stopped ringing me as well! I do use my internet banking quite a lot though, so I think I would miss it.

Hi Everyone,

I got a card with cashplus this week i know that the i have to pay charges but i am going to have my child benifit paid into it so that i can pay for my car tax, insurance, etc online which i cant do at the moment by buying online i think i will still be saving money in the long run. It would also mean i can do my weekly shopping too so no more queing :-)

But i think the good thing in that you can use it abroad (sometimes i have too with my job)as well in case of emergencies but only spend what you have available so temptation out the door.

(I apologise for my keyboards poor spelling and grammar)

I have one for spending abroad also. I am not English and need money abroad when I travel to see family. The card I have has an annual fee of £5. I put 50 quid a month in (free at post offices) and then draw my entire spend out in one lot abroad so I only get one lot of charges. I also use it for xmas shopping on line when I can make savings of more than the 2.75% I get charged.

I have the 360 money splash plastic. For foreign transactions there is a 2.5% charge plus an atm withdrawal charge. So if I plan to spend 300 euros I just draw them in one lot and up my payment the next month to take account of the charges.

However, I also have just applied for the think banking account as it now has a debit card which will give me the same benefits for no extra. When I get that account I will probably cancel the prepaid card

Looks like this Think Banking account is becoming popular on this site...tel number is 0845 6343434.
On the subject of pre paid cards just look at the costs regarding the loading of it and cash withdrawals,if it exceeds £12.50 a month then you would be better off with the above account.

Maybe we should get some commission for all our recomendations of this ac. Trouble is they would get half of it back again with the 50% thing [:x)]

Hi
Had a look at this 'Thinkbanking' card; seems interesting, looked at 'terms' and "Your thinkbanking Card is issued by Newcastle Building Society" and "the account is a managed bank account run by thinkbanking and held with the Royal Bank of Scotland" and "If applicable, we will arrange the payments due in accordance with the payment programme agreed between Gregory Pennington Limited.." - seems Gregory Pennington (mention in previous posts) is in there too.
Not surprising really with First Direct telling folk in an IVA that their account is to be terminated in 30 days, and the above filling a gap in the market, surprised that First Direct can afford to lose customers after their debacle with their £10 a month admin fee.. So it's nice to see their ARE places to go for a simple non-credit check bank account!
Don't know if links are allowed here or not so simply put in 'thinkbanking' into Google for info

I was offered it as I have my iva with freeman jones but on the gregory pennington website I think it comes under financial services and explains all about it, but that is the only place I have seen it. Freeman Jones is the sister company to them that deals with the iva,s I think the account was originally for those on debt management. They did say when I spoke to them about the iva that I could get my own ac but it was so much easier to do it there and then on the phone than have the probs others seem to have in getting ac,s.
