Hi Everyone,

I`m sorry if this has been posted by others already by anyone else.[:)]
I have been Br 2 weeks now and now thinking of trying to open a simple account for any future wages to go in and for direct debits.
Does anyone know of any that dont charge a monthly fee and also dont need certain amount of cash to open the account eg.£50/£100. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks[:)]

Try the Co-op Cashminder account. You don't have to pay any money in to open the account and you get internet and telephone banking and a Visa Electron debit card.

Also look into CashPlus Mastercard as well for dealing with credit card purchases!

Out of interest, is CashPlus the best Pre-pay Credit card to have? I've had a fair look round the internet and they seem to offer the best deal with either £1/transaction or £5/mth fee and no other spending charges in the UK. Others seem to take the mick. The gold card looks nice too [:D]

I spent a lot of time looking at pre-pay cards as I travel frequently for business purposes and wanted to keep personal/business expenses seperate. The CashPlus card was the cheapest to use in the UK as long as you ensure you apply for the ActivePlus account. It's not the easiest when it comes to top-up, if like me, you use the internet heavily, top up via the internet has a really small limit (£25) - so you have to rely on e-pay outlets which can be a nuisance.

It has been a great way of tracking business/personal expenses and limited to £5 a month usage fees.

You have the ability to set up a standing order for regular transfers etc.

It has been a very useful card as far as I am concerned.

I've got the Virgin card. It costs £9.95 to get one and there is a fee of 2.95% of each amount spent. This is fine for me as I only use it occasionally, but for a heavy user the Cashplus one is probably better.

All Banks offer basic Bank accounts and no fees are levied. There are somethings to chose from.Nationwide haveone of the best all round accounts but they have stopped opening accounts now for Undischarged BR.Shame really. You get interest as in a normal account - virtually unheard of??

Open a basic account that have a debitcard/cash function. So forget Barclays for starters.Halifax,Co-op are favourites. I was going to add Natwest with their Step SOLO debitcard/doubles up as masetro abroad but they may not alow accounts with Undischarge BRs as RBS.

Halifax Easycash account can only be opened on the internet.Co-op at the branch only I think.

As for the Masetro prepaid cards -the problem with all of them is the aweful 90p per minute call to customer services and purchase charges. The Ministry of sound and the Bread card is the best of them. I have a trick whereby I don't call them but I call their issueing bank(Newcastle Building sociery) to get them to call me.Works 99%.

The Cashmaster Mastercard prepaidcard Goldcard is just awesome - looks like the real creditcard!! Can be use even for car hire and petrol pump pay point and with purchase protection!! I only use it only for overseas use, foriegn net purchase or flights abroad as VE or maestro might not be accepted.

For UK use only a Visa electron is fine 95% of the way.Bundled that with a CM monthly no fee Mastercard for the other 5% of purchase.

That's all you need!
