Hi this is an update on a post I made yesterday. My ex husband wrongly informed me that when our property was sold the outstanding amount left on the unsecured loan to Northern Rock (20K approx) would be split between the two of us. This is incorrect and we will still be jointly liable. (There will not be enough from the house sale to cover this either by the way) So, I am not sure where I stand now. I already have a DMP, there is no way I can afford another £150 p.m. to Northern Rock for the unsecured loan, but if I put NR as part of my DMP, isnt that letting my ex off the hook. NR have told me this morning that they would continue to chase both of us and it would lead to CCJs etc for both of us. Should I really be caring and just contact my DMP for the unsecured loan and let my ex worry about his part in this. At the end of the day he is currently renting a property for £650 p.m. and paying that!! but not ensuring that the property myself and the children live in is paid for. Thanks for your help.

Now this makes more sense. I think you now need to take professional advice from an insolvency practitioner with regard to your options, which are

Bankruptcy proceedings
Proposing an IVA to creditors
Entering into a DMP

I already have a DMP with Byrom and Keeley. Do you think I would be best to sell the house and then try for an IVA with the unsecured debt I have. Bankruptcy has been tempting for the pure fact it shorten the time I would have to live through this mess, but the things that worry me about bankruptcy are

a) Will it affect my job as an Office Manager in the NHS. I do not mind my employee services department knowing, but I would probably not like my immediate staff to find out.
b) Will it affect my plans to rent a property?

Hi
It will not affect your job and as long as you have a good deposit for renting you should have no problem .You may have to rent privately rather than through an established agent but even then I think if you are upfront with them you should be ok.
Good luck to you with whatever you decide and this may be the opportunity for a fresh start.
