I got an IVA in August 2007 and was told by the company that i would still be able to get a mortgage for my first home but could not get any credit on credit cards or loans. I have a mortgage agreed in principle and wrote to the IVA company re: change in payments and whether there would be any. I received a reply today saying a wasn't allowed a mortgage cause this was viewed as credit. No one at the company seems capable of talking to me and numerous messages have been left for my case manager to contact me but to no avail.

Do you have any ideas which could help me please?

What IP firm are you using?
You should be able to get a mortgage as long as it doesnt affect your IVA payments in any way.

Mrs Skint is right - who advised you that this would be OK in the first place. Might be an idea to speak to them again and remind them of the advice they gave, and then enquire why this is not being followed through by the supervisory team.

Its through Clearstart. My major concern when getting an IVA was the ability to get a mortgage and now i have been told that it is 'deemed as gaining credit' and going against terms of IVA.

The mortgage payments would be similar to my rent payments, even slightly lower.

I'm confused as to why they can say this now.

What would happen if I got the mortgage anyway?

Perhaps llok on the insolvency service website under the heading "find an IP" and email him/her direct.

As the mortgage will not affect your IVA contributions then there should be no reason your IP should object.

That's what I don't understand, Why he can object to it.

He's never replied to any letters sent, except this last one which has taken him 4 weeks. And has at least 15 message asking him to call me.

I understand the not having credit cards and loans but was told that a mortgage was viewed differently.

Has anyone managed to get a first time buyer mortgage with an IVA?
