As a public sector worker I am caught between a rock and a hard place. I support my colleagues across the country but cannot go on strike on Nov 30th. I cannot afford to loose a days pay. I have not told anyone at work that I am on an IVA. I will have to cross the picket line in shame. Its crazy how getting into debt impacts on other things.

I won't be going on strike either - cannot afford to lose the pay.

Nobody in my office is going out - they don't belong to the union for one thing.

It will be the second time I have crossed the picket line since being at my current place of employment.

I do belong to the union but won't be striking, wouldn't even consider it.

My uni course is cancelled for the day as my lecturer is exercising his right to strike and completely understand this and will study at home until work time.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

I am on leave as I need to take the time to look after Little Foggy, as his school will be closed.

I know all the reasoning, and, believe me, I am as miffed (insert any alternative term you wish) as anybody (even more so for various reasons) -- however, I don't see the strike as achieving anything with this government, as they just change the rules as they go along and do not respect any past agreements, save their own agenda.

I'm private sector so don't belong to a union. I belonged to one years ago and all they did was make a lot of money for doing very little!

Must admit that I only joined mine because the benefits were good!! If I'm off sick for more than a week and for a maximum of ten weeks then I can claim money from them and I have done that in the past.

They're not recognised by my employers but I stay with them as they are cheaper than Unison and I have never been happy with their representatives.

I always forget the side benefits like Countdown, cut price cinema tickets, etc. Shame on me.

Almost ashamed to say I will be off on Wed! I just can't justify the extra £56 I will have to pay a month from April towards a pension that won't be there when and if I receive it.

The union have done loads for me this year and if I'm honest my manager forgot to log me as on strike in June so never got deducted!

Even though I'm not happy at having to pay more, I just can't afford to lose the pay.

I know what you mean Jan - however I will lose about £30 for the day. If I don't show my distaste I'll end up with the IVA possibly failing as there's no way I can find that money each month with no pay rises likely.

Not a good time.[:(]

I would lose a lot of money if I went on strike and my job is safe thankfully so I will be going into work.
