There are 3 credit reference agencies in the UK, and you can get your file by sending a postal order / cheque for £2 to each of them, you don't have to subscribe to their expensive monthly monitoring services. Although I've head some may join for the month and then cancel, if you do this I don't think they would let you have another free trial ;-(

These are the addresses for the CRA's to send your request to;

Equifax Plc
Credit File Advice Centre
PO Box 1140
Bradford
BD1 5US

Callcredit Limited
Consumer Services Team
PO Box 491
Leeds
LS3 1WZ

Experian Limited
Consumer Help Service
PO Box 8000
Nottingham
NG80 7WF

This is a sample letter for gaining your credit file under a Section 7 DPA request.

Dear Sirs,

I am writing under Section 158(1) of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 and Section 7 of the Data Protection Act 1998.

Please send me a copy of my credit file.

My full name is [YOUR FULL NAME], and my date of birth is [YOUR DOB]. I have lived at the above address for more than 6 years. [IF YOU'VE LIVED AT THIS ADDRESS LESS THAN 6 YEARS GIVE THEM THESE ADDRESSES TOO]

I enclose a cheque for £2.00 to cover your administration costs.

I request your reply within seven working days of receiving this letter.

Yours faithfully
