I wouldn't trust anything they say! Just put the bit that you think should be removed into a savings account. When they took CHB away from my dept they wrote new recovery laws which means you have to repay even if it's their fault (unless there are exceptional hardship reasons).

The problem with HMR&C is that those with the experience to deal with problems have all been made redundant in the cuts, leaving those who know little more than to punch numbers into a computer system that is not fit for purpose, and who understand the gobbledy-gook that spews out as much as you and I !!!

The staff who try to work with the system have been warning the government for years that it is all going belly up, but are not listened to.

None of this helps us, but we have to live with it. I have just spent weeks trying to send them back £450 they claim we had overpaid in tax, which I knew we hadn't and getting them to agree that they had charged us twice for the following tax year. It takes perseverance and the patience of Job, but we got there in the end, despite letters to-ing and fro-ing from three seperate departments!!

Oh for the days when you just walked into a tax office down in town and they sat with you and sorted it all out there and then !!!!!

Not just HMRC but DWP also. I will try to jump out of the job as I don't want to be one of the few left trying to support a system that is teetering.

I think the whole civil service is very close to being no longer fit for purpose, kazzafunk.... probably part of the con-dem master plan to get everything privatised. The general public believe the hype in the media and won't stop it happening ( if anything they will be cheering ). Then when all is in private hands they will start whining when it all costs more and they will have burnt their bridges.

I would get out of Public Service if I could, but I am unemployable elsewhere (although I do a great job, with no attendance problems) the ME is a no-no to a new employer.

I know - that's what worries me foggy - no-one will employ me. The only thing I can hope is if I get made redundant, do a full and final offer to end the IVA and maybe get a part time job somewhere. Or keep my fingers crossed to get my ill health retirement.

I am already imagining myself in a bright orange jumpsuit, running around the local B&Q (if I am lucky they will take pity and give me a job too!).

I'd have no problems with that! Can quite easily avoid eating the food!
