I've not had anything from mine as yet but I do tend to be in credit so not worried at the moment.
I do pay these by DD so that at least I don't have to worry about a big bill arriving in the post - especially after winter!

I just pay by direct debit too Jan. Don't think I trust myself yet to pay the bill when it comes, after all thats how I got into a mess in the first place!!!
I'd rather know that I'm not going to have a huge bill every quarter! It's awful when those big utility bills drop through the door every quarter.

I think im lucky with the pre-card meters i can gage what i spend and budget, in the summer i spend nothing on gas, apart from £5 every so often, just keep stock piling the card with money for the winter. Although i spend a little bit more, it helps to budget.
I've always done DD - feel much happier doing it that way. I personally wouldn't do pre paid meters unless I had to.
The only meter I have is for the water.

we are DD for both Gas/Elec and with EDF for them both. they have changed the way the bills are calculated. We got the first of these new bills two days ago.
they now charge a flat rate per unit, and a flat rate per day for standing charge. Basically going back to how it was all done many years ago.
Am not sure if the bill is cheaper this quarter or not but its definately easier reading.
Our DD was put up by £9 the same month of our IVA acceptance too. Wonder if they know somehow and do it out of panic.
I'm still paying the same now as I did when the IVA started - waiting for it to go up again as I'm sure my supplier is part of Scottish Power.
